Chapter Seven - Linda Kirk 289acquainted with a ‘new’ God, because I’d think about things in the dreammuch more than scripture or the Spirit of Prophecy. They made muchmore exciting reading. That should have clued me in!”FactThe dreams are not new light, but “old light in new settings.”God says:Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 401The question has been asked me, "Do you think that the Lord has anymore light for us as a people?" I answer that He has light that is new tous, and yet it is precious old light that is to shine forth from the Word oftruth. We have only the glimmerings of the rays of the light that is yet tocome to us. We are not making the most of the light which the Lord hasalready given us, and thus we fail to receive the increased light; we do notwalk in light already shed upon us.Sermons and Talks, Vol. 1, p. 105We read in the following verse, verse 17, "Think not that I am come todestroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."What made them think that? It was because, notwithstanding they hadhad Christ represented in the typical offerings and sacrifices, they couldnot get it out of their minds that it was the law, the law, the law that theymust dwell upon as their entrance into heaven. And here Christ comes inwith His lesson, not to detract from the law, but to reveal to them the oldlight in new settings. He comes to reveal that light in the framework ofthe gospel, that they might understand in regard to this light that it wasessential for them to have.Christian Education, p. 80The Bible has been placed in the background, while the sayings ofgreat men, so-called, have been taken in its stead. May the Lord forgiveus the slight we have put upon his word. Though inestimable treasures arein the Bible, and it is like a mine full of precious ore, it is not valued, it isnot searched, and its riches are not discovered. Mercy and truth and loveare valuable beyond our power to calculate; we cannot have too great asupply of these treasures, and it is in the word of God we find out how wemay become possessors of these heavenly riches, and yet why is it thatthe word of God is uninteresting to many professed Christians? Is itbecause the word of God is not spirit and is not life? Has Jesus put uponus an uninteresting task, when he commands us to "search theScriptures"? [John 5:39.] Jesus says, "The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life." [John 6:63.] But spiritual things arespiritually discerned, and the reason of your lack of interest is that youlack the Spirit of God. When the heart is brought into harmony with theword, a new life will spring up within you, a new light will shine uponevery line of the word, and it will become the voice of God to your soul.In this way you will take celestial observations, and know whither youare going, and be able to make the most of your privileges today.Counsels for the Church, p. 92
