1112–1150: <strong>Hildegard</strong> at Disibodenberg, fijirst taking vows with Jutta (d. 1136),<br />

then magistra herself<br />

1150: <strong>Hildegard</strong> moved her community <strong>to</strong> Rupertsberg, near <strong>Bingen</strong><br />

Late 1150s–early 1170s: journeys: 1158–1161 (monasteries); 1160 (Trier); 1161,<br />

1163 (Cologne); 1170 (Swabia, including Kirchheim)<br />

1159–1177: Schism between Emperor Frederick Barbarossa and the papacy<br />

1165: <strong>Hildegard</strong> founded her second community at Eibingen, across the<br />

Rhine from Rupertsberg<br />

1173: Death <strong>of</strong> Volmar<br />

1177: Guibert <strong>of</strong> Gembloux became <strong>Hildegard</strong>’s secretary<br />
