promulgated on Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 20 <strong>of</strong> the same year. Andreas <strong>of</strong> Zirkenbach, who<br />

is attested as the vicar <strong>of</strong> the cathedral between 1351 and 1358, is considered<br />

<strong>to</strong> be the most likely author. This prophecy can be found in a manuscript<br />

held by the university library in Würzburg (UB Würzburg, M. p. misc. F. 6,<br />

fols 35v–36v), where it appears in combination with three authentic <strong>Hildegard</strong>ian<br />

prophecies from the Liber diuinorum operum (3.6.16, 25–26), as<br />

well as <strong>Hildegard</strong>’s letter <strong>to</strong> Werner <strong>of</strong> Kirchheim. All three authentic texts<br />

refer <strong>to</strong> the future status <strong>of</strong> the realm and the clergy.<br />

It would be impossible <strong>to</strong> document exhaustively the abundance <strong>of</strong><br />

references and quotations from <strong>Hildegard</strong>’s writings within the his<strong>to</strong>riographic<br />

literature composed in the Middle Ages within the context <strong>of</strong><br />

this overview. The following list includes further literary witnesses <strong>to</strong> <strong>Hildegard</strong>’s<br />

his<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> influence; however, an extensive evaluation remains<br />

beyond the scope <strong>of</strong> this outline:<br />
