<strong>Productivity</strong> Performance<br />

The services sector registered a productivity<br />

growth of 4.9% to a level of RM53,938 in 2011<br />

from RM51,407 in 2010 (Figure 6.3 & 6.4). The<br />

highest productivity growth were found in<br />

communication, wholesale and retail as well as<br />

real estate and business services. These three<br />

sub-sectors registered productivity growth above<br />

the overall services sector level grew at 5.8%,<br />

5.6% and 5.0% respectively. The productivity<br />

of the communication sub-sector expanded to<br />

RM139,951 due to higher demand for cellular,<br />

broadband and third generation (3G) services.<br />

The productivity of the wholesale and retail subsector<br />

grew to RM45,254. It was driven by stronger<br />

consumer spending, higher disposable income and<br />

improved labour market. In addition, tourist per<br />

capita expenditure increased to RM2,411 in 2011<br />

from RM2,299 in 2010. Real estate and business<br />

services sub-sector is by far the most productive<br />
