Regional Overview of Comparative<br />

<strong>Productivity</strong> Performance<br />

Although affected by the global economic<br />

slowdown in terms of export performance,<br />

<strong>Malaysia</strong>’s productivity had surpassed growth<br />

recorded by most Organisation of Economic<br />

Cooperation Development (OECD) countries.<br />

<strong>Malaysia</strong> recorded a 4.6% productivity growth,<br />

ahead of Republic of Korea (2.1%), Finland<br />

(1.9%), USA (1.2%), UK (0.5%) and Japan (-2.0%)<br />

(Figure.1.16).<br />

In terms of level, <strong>Malaysia</strong>’s productivity level at<br />

USD14,217 was lower than Republic of Korea<br />

(USD39,490), Finland (USD64,345), USA (USD92,369)<br />

UK (USD66,906) and Japan (USD74,258) (Figure<br />

1.16). Strong economic fundamentals coupled<br />

with pragmatic macro economic policies and the<br />

implementation of ETP are among the initiatives<br />

taken by the Government to further enhance<br />

<strong>Malaysia</strong>’s productivity level.<br />

Among the selected Asian countries, China<br />

recorded the highest productivity growth of<br />
