to higher per capita income in the encouraging<br />

economic condition in 2010. The per capita income<br />

in current price increased to RM26,175 or USD8,417<br />

in 2010 from RM13,939 or USD3,668 in 2000 as<br />

the economy registered a remarkable growth of<br />

7.2% in 2010. A decreasing value of Gini coefficient<br />

from 0.449 to 0.441 reflects a more equal wealth<br />

distribution. The implementation of targeted<br />

poverty programmes in both rural and urban areas<br />

has successfully reduced poverty to 3.8% in 2010<br />

from 7.6% in 2000. The 10MP also gives greater<br />

attention to the provision of comprehensive social<br />

safety net programmes for the disadvantaged<br />

children, disabled and senior citizens, eligible<br />

Housing sub-index showed an upward trend of<br />

15.7 points. A significant rise of low cost housing<br />

units and the percentage of housing units with<br />

piped water as well as a wider coverage of<br />

electricity contributed to the upward trend of the<br />
