Manufacturing sector<br />

The productivity of the manufacturing sector<br />

grew by 2.0% amounting to RM54,509 in 2011<br />

from RM53,459 in 2010 (Figure 1.12). Refined<br />

petroleum products sub-sector recorded the<br />

highest productivity growth of 10.7%, followed<br />

by wearing apparel sub-sector which registered<br />

strong productivity growth of 7.3%, attributed<br />

to greater demand particularly Turkey, Middle<br />

East and emerging economies such as China. The<br />

high value added contribution sub-sectors which<br />

demonstrated strong growth in productivity<br />

were chemicals and chemical products (4.9%) as<br />

well as rubber and plastics products (4.0%). The<br />

productivity growth of these sub-sectors surpassed<br />

the manufacturing average.<br />

Agriculture sector<br />

The agriculture sector recorded commendable<br />

productivity growth of 6.2% to RM29,466 in 2011<br />

from RM27,738 in 2010 (Figure 1.13). The growth<br />

was attributed mainly by higher production of<br />
