hold out my hand to you, and in order to help you
to carry out the wish of omitting nothing in this
catalogue, I am asking my chief publisher here to
send me a complete catalogue of all my works. As
far as I can remember, there is not only no omission
in your catalogue (I wonder how you came to know
even the utterly worthless trifles), but it is far too
full. In order to make it easier to you, I let you
have it again, only adding to it my observations,
etc. You seem to know nothing of my misfortune in
getting the left arm broken at the wrist, and how,
after five months, I still suffer from stiffness, swelling,
and pains—have swollen fingers, cannot move the
wrist ; in short, that I (being in my sixty-first year)
can never hope to be perfectly well again. Notwith-
standing this, and although, as I cannot play for you,
I can offer you but little that is interesting, yet for
my own sake I will certainly not let pass the first
opportunity of making your acquaintance. I cannot
as yet quite foresee what journeys and what treat-
ment this accident will necessitate during the summer
the present idea is that I should first try what my
second native country in Warmbrunn can do for me
if this does not cure me in four or six weeks, try
something else. We shall remain anyhow in corre-
spondence, and I shall not fail to keep you aufait of
what I am doing. Accept my thanks for the
