At this time Henselt's friend Zschocher made me
acquainted with his Preambules dans tous les tons
majeurs et mineurs (only published in a Eussian
edition). This suite of unpretending miniatures in
the narrowest possible proportions (they do not over-
step the limits of one to three lines) are full of poetry
and of Henselt's flow of melody.
The following lines are in reply to my request for a
copy of this charming work, which was quite unknown
in Germany
