with the wishes of that other lady ' (Praulein Eamann,<br />

who had obtained from Henselt a letter of Liszt for<br />

her biography of this musician) . ' I should like, as far<br />

as lies in my power, to make good this fault, and<br />

awaiting your possible decision— perhaps your silence<br />

on the subject — remain with the most profound<br />

respect,<br />

' Kindly excuse the laconic brevity of my letter. I<br />

leave no one without an answer, and am accordingly<br />

almost killed with writing.<br />

' P.S.-^The kind sympathy you express for my poor<br />

telling you that her bodily state is far better than we<br />

could have dared to hope.'<br />

The three following letters, written to me by<br />

Henselt, are also on the subject of the Liszt corre-<br />

spondence. The first of these mentions the Episto-<br />

discher Gedanke of Weber, arranged for the piano-<br />

forte, and completed by Ad. Henselt. It was dedicated<br />

to his friend Pr. Liszt.<br />
