at that period that I must at least have spoken of it
to my wife ; for it was just at that time that I became
acquainted with her. The whole thing is, therefore,
quite a puzzle to me, especially as the letters look
quite like mine. I return, therefore, to the point
that it is due to us all that I should see the actual
original of the letter to Fraulein Bonterwek. It is,
to be sure, quite possible that, owing to the varied
impressions of that time, the incident may have
slipped out of my memory. I expect your opinion,
at all events, on the above, and only repeat once
more that it is always my wish to oblige you. With
