acquainted with her. The whole thing is, therefore,<br />

quite a puzzle to me, especially as the letters look<br />

quite like mine. I return, therefore, to the point<br />

that it is due to us all that I should see the actual<br />

original of the letter to Fraulein Bonterwek. It is,<br />

to be sure, quite possible that, owing to the varied<br />

impressions of that time, the incident may have<br />

slipped out of my memory. I expect your opinion,<br />

at all events, on the above, and only repeat once<br />

more that it is always my wish to oblige you. With<br />
