will soon come to him. But I want you to tell me
something more definite about this appointment. I
am very happy about it—is it for life ? Frau von
Flad is also much pleased about it. She says I
must not go to Vienna till I have something in
writing. One of my kind acquaintances, who would
rather have me in Vienna than Berlin, has written
the enclosed questions. Select out of them what you
think well, and speak with Hummel about it.
' Here I have been interrupted. I am with Frau
von Schallhammer. She gives me leave to write

said to you before, and am not taking time to read it

I were still working hard at the octaves. Oh yes
But I have set myself another task, at which you will

hand." I have brought this to such a point that 1
am able to stretch the following extension, but not to
