toalhas brancas. Lá, a pretensiosidade ficou de lado e deu espaço as origens
do autêntico bistrô francês. Isto é, vinhos exclusivos, comida fresca e ambiente
rústico. A combinação franco-nipônica é evidente em tudo. Elaboradas receitas
Arco do Teles, a traditional and historical landmark in downtown Rio de Janeiro, is the
beginning of the sensorial journey created by Madame Coccinelle. When going through the
historical arch it is impossible not to see the red awning along with sidewalk tables welcoming
tourists and passersby to the bistrô. If you imagine to find long white tablecloths and a French
maître in a fraque, you will be seriously disappointed. Coccinelle bistrô left aside the [fake]
French pretension and went straight to the origins of the authentic French bistrô: exclusive
wines and fresh food at a rustic atmosphere. As unlikely as it sounds, Coccinelle bistrô is a
Franco-Japanese mix. Exquisite French recipes are served in captivating ‘obentôs’ - a variety
of colored bowls. This unique combination is one of the consequences of the union between
the French restauranteur Yves de Roquemaurel and the Japanese Chef Madame Coccinelle.
The rich selection of organic and biodynamic wines, the recipes [and its names - references
to Parisian metro stations] in addition to daily selection of fresh organic ingredients are the
essence of Coccinelle bistrô. Breaking one more paradigm, the couple proved that bistrô
food has nothing to do with tiny expensive portions. The side dishes can always be refilled to
satisfy the visitors appetite with no extra costs and wine bottles, served by the glass, jar or
bottle, have excellent cost-benefit. On the 2nd floor of Coccinelle is “La Boutique”, a gourmet
shop that offers wines, artesanal cheese and organic products. Coccinelle bistrô offers wine
tastings regularly and can also be rented out for private events.
