This book isuncommon not only for its content but also for the form of interpretation. It has some value fromthe language position of Roman literature of the first half of the 3rd century A. D. too. Pastits subjectivism, the writing document of Ampelius is remarkable for: A/ It systematize notationabout historical pro-cess in the Mediterranean for laics. B/ It advert to old Roman education,though private. C/ It serves for philologist as the valuable mine of understanding of language andcompositition in didactical manual. Její vzácnou ozdobou byla Kniha pamětihodností (Liber memorialis) LuciaAmpelia, jehož působení spadá nejspíše do poslední čtvrtiny 2. a 1. poloviny 3. stoletípř. n. l. Určitou nápovědu k datování poskytuje jméno adresáta, pro nějž tuto příručku Ampeliusnapsal. Je to Macrinus. Ztotožníme-li jej se jménem císaře (164–218 n. l.), pak byMacrinus pocházel z Afriky, díky píli a houževnatosti se vypracoval na prefekta Flaminiovysilnice (praefectus vehiculorum), pak roku 208 na prokurátora aeraria, od roku 212 byl velitelemCaracallových prétoriánů a konečně se v srpnu 217 (po smrti Caracally) stal římským11
