ResuméRELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE MUNICIPALITY OF ZÁBŘEH UPON ODRA AND VÍTKOVICECOAL AND ORE MINING BEFORE WORLD WAR IPavel KladiwaThe study concentrates on one from the consequences of industrialization for one from the municipalitiesof Ostravian industrial agglomeration. Zábřeh upon Odra was until the second third of the 19th century onlya small landed village with pure Czech inhabitants; but in its surroundings grew up one from the biggest industrialbusiness in Habsburg Monarchy, steelworks in Vítkovice. Thereafter came into existence in Zábřeh a few smallerfactories profiting from cooperation with Vítkovice Coal and Ore Mining (VHHT) and the population rateof municipality grew rapidly thanks to immigration of workers finding their livelihood in steelworks. From thebeginning of the 20th century, VHHT had been involved in communal affairs of Zábřeh with the goal to getcontrol of the public space because it wanted to build new production plants. During the municipal votes VHHTdeveloped pressure on inhabitants of Zábřeh whose existence was dependent on steelworks and through underhanddealings tried to affect a part of local estate owners who expected property benefit from their opportune attitude.Czech municipal leading of Zábřeh defended for ten years from pressure of VHHT with all available means. At the end before the last municipal votes ere WWI, both sides closed compromise settlement, which assured tothe Czech side for next three-years-elective period only the closest majority in the municipal self-government.The study tries to prove that under the surface of struggle of the Czech municipality with German company thevaried reality is hidden.(Translation Hana Šústková)126
