Chapter 9 Details on network partition resolution resources 726 LAN heartbeat (used with Public LAN) Disk heartbeat Shared disk LAN heartbeat (Interconnect-dedicated) DISK network partition resolution resources Note 1 It is recommended to use DISK network partition resolution resources when a shared disk is used. Note 2 Configure DISK network partition resolution resources considering burden on the disk because they regularly perform read/write operations to the disk. Note3 For disk heartbeat partitions to be used in DISK network partition resolution resources, use partitions that are configured to be managed in cluster in the HBA settings. Note 4 If a failure has occurred on all network channels while all disk heartbeat partitions can be accessed normally, a network partition is detected. Then failover takes place in the master server and a server that can communicate with the master server. Emergent shutdown takes place in the rest of servers. Note 5 If heartbeat from other server is lost while all disk heartbeat partitions cannot be accessed normally, solving the network partition fails and a failover does not take place. In this case, emergency shutdown takes place even in servers working properly. Note 6 In a cluster configuration with multiple disk heartbeat partitions, if some disk heartbeat partitions have errors and heartbeat from other server is lost, the server status becomes Suspension (Network Partition Unsolved). Better availability is provided by keeping servers alive. However, no group can be started in servers whose status is Suspension (Network Partition Unsolved). Once all disk heartbeat partitions are recovered to be accessed normally, the server status becomes Online. Note 7 When the I/O time to the shared disk takes longer than I/O Wait Time of DiskNP resource configured in cluster properties, a failover may not be performed due to time-out of solving a network partition. Note 8 Solving a network partition with this method takes longer compared to other methods because delay in disk I/O needs to be taken into account. The time required to solve a network partition takes twice as long as the longer time of the heartbeat time-out and Disk I/O Wait Time configured in cluster properties.
