The <strong>for</strong>ced stop function<br />

What is the <strong>for</strong>ced stop function?<br />

The <strong>for</strong>ced stop function <strong>for</strong>cibly stops the failing server from one of the rest of servers working<br />

normally by using the IPMI function when it is recognized that the server is failing.<br />

Conditions <strong>for</strong> per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>for</strong>ced stop<br />

� Forced stop is not per<strong>for</strong>med when:<br />

• The failover group successfully stops be<strong>for</strong>e the server fails<br />

• The server is shut down by the clpdown command, the OS shutdown command or<br />

WebManager and the failover group successfully stops<br />

• The cluster is stopped by the clpcl command or WebManager and the failover group<br />

successfully stops<br />

• The server fails and there is no failover group to per<strong>for</strong>m failover from the failing server<br />

to another server<br />

(including when the failover group is not activated in the failing server)<br />

� Forced stop is per<strong>for</strong>med when the server is failing and there is a failover group to per<strong>for</strong>m<br />

failover from the failing server to another server<br />

Commands to be used <strong>for</strong> <strong>for</strong>ced stop<br />

The hwreset command in IPMI Management Utilities (ipmiutil) is used to <strong>for</strong>cible stop a server.<br />

When the hwreset command cannot be used, this function cannot be used either.<br />

Specify the following option values <strong>for</strong> the hwreset command execution in the BMC tab of<br />

Server Properties.<br />

-U [user name] User name<br />

-P [password] Password<br />

Displaying and changing the details of <strong>for</strong>ced stop<br />

For the <strong>for</strong>ced stop settings, refer to “Recovery tab” in “Chapter 3 Function of the Builder”. For<br />

parameters <strong>for</strong> when the hwreset is executed, refer to “BMC tab”.<br />

Notes on the <strong>for</strong>ced stop<br />

� About ipmiutil<br />

When you use this function, it is necessary to install ipmiutil <strong>2.0</strong>.0 or later in each cluster<br />

server. For in<strong>for</strong>mation on how to get ipmiutil and how to install it, refer to “Setup of BMC<br />
