Chapter 11 The system maintenance information Performing a snapshot backup 762 When a mirror disk or a hybrid disk is used, it is possible to suspend mirroring to back up the stand-by data partition as a snapshot image. This is referred to as snapshot backup. During executing snapshot backup, failover cannot be performed to the stand-by server or server group of the copying destination since mirroring is temporarily cancelled. While in this state, cancel the access restriction to the data partition of the standby server to collect the backup. To return from the snapshot status, control the disk access and build the mirror again. For details for how to collect the backup, see the manuals of the backup software. Performing a snapshot backup To execute the snapshot backup for a mirror disk, follow the steps below: 1. Stop the mirror disk monitor resource that monitors the mirror disk that will be backed up on the server to be backed up. clpmonctrl -s -m 2. Disconnect the mirror disk. clpmdctrl --break 3. Allow accesses to the mirror disk. mdopen 4. Back up necessary files. 5. Forbid accesses to the mirror disk. mdclose 6. Recover the mirror disk. clpmdctrl --recovery 7. Start the mirror disk monitor resource that monitors the mirror disk. clpmonctrl -r -m To execute the snapshot backup for a hybrid disk, collect the backup by following the steps below in a server in the standby server group of the copying destination. 1. Run the following command in the server where the backup is collected. Clphdsnapshot –open 2. When the access restriction in the data partition is cancelled, back up the required files. 3. Run the following command in the server where the backup has been collected to restart mirroring. Clphdsnapshot --close 4. When the automatic mirror recovery is disabled, perform mirror recovery manually from Mirror Disk Helper. For the commands, see Chapter 4, “ExpressCluster command reference” of this guide. Linking to ESMPRO Agent Section III Maintenance information Linking to ESMPRO Agent By linking to ESMPRO Agent, ExpressCluster can fail over by the event logs indicating the system error. To monitor the event logs, it is required to set up ESMPRO Agent on the cluster server. Environment settings In the report settings from ESMPRO Agent to the event log to be monitored, register the execution of the failover command to all the servers that configure the cluster. For example, if an error is detected, register the ARMDOWN command. For details on setting ESMPRO Agent, see the manual of ESMPRO Agent. 763
