Travis Elder - For the past 2 ½ years, I have been interested<br />

in getting an internship with a software<br />

company so I can have that<br />

stepping stone needed to get a job in<br />

my field of study. I recently started<br />

on a research project for LSAMP on<br />

the Arduino Microcontroller. There<br />

are many different microcontrollers<br />

out the closely with a professor to fully<br />

understand the knowledge behind it.<br />

Barbara Rizzo - I am currently a senior enrolled in the Honors<br />

Program. My educational background<br />

consists of undergraduate science classes<br />

spanning a range of topics, including molecular<br />

and cell biology, ecology & evolution,<br />

human anatomy and physiology and<br />

earth and atmospheric science. I have also<br />

elected to take a Sophie Davis public<br />

health course that focuses on research<br />

methods involved in primary care at the larger, community<br />

level.<br />

Carmen Carrion - My college education started in Brooklyn<br />

College in 2002. During my senior<br />

year I made the decision to attend<br />

graduate school. My first research<br />

projects were in social psychology. I<br />

learned a great deal while working<br />

with my mentor and I came to the<br />

realization that a research career can<br />

be extremely rewarding. Upon completion of this study and<br />

llege<br />

Neuropsychology program and continue working with my<br />

current advisor.<br />

Julianne Vernon - grew up in Bronx, New York. Her family<br />

originates from the Central American<br />

country of Belize. She was the<br />

first out of my family to attend and<br />

graduate from college. She graduated<br />

from City College with a bachelor<br />

degree in Chemical Engineering.<br />

After graduation, she was hired by<br />

the NYC Department of Environmental<br />

Protection where she worked as a Process Engineer in<br />

the Bureau of Wastewater. She is currently a PhD candidate<br />

and plans to pursue a career in academia.<br />

Miguel Lopez - came to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic<br />

of America at nineteen years old. Miguel<br />

received a URECA 09 summer<br />

fellowship award and was named the<br />

<br />

2009. After graduating from SBU, he<br />

plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering<br />

and ultimately his goal is to<br />

become a professor.<br />

Amarachukwu Enemuo - was born in Nigeria and migrated<br />

to the United States shortly after graduating<br />

high school. She enrolled at the City<br />

College of New York (CCNY) where she<br />

obtained a B.E. in computer engineering.<br />

During her undergraduate years she participated<br />

in various research projects in the<br />

fields of computer science, chemical and<br />

electrical engineering, at Brookhaven National Laboratory,<br />

Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, CCNY and at other<br />

institutions.<br />

Jonathan Blaize - is a doctoral candidate of the neuroscience<br />

program at the CUNY Graduate Center, his<br />

goal is to secure a tenure track position with<br />

an institution catering to the pursuit of phar-<br />

macological remedies for common physiological<br />

disorders. Jonathan also has a passion<br />

for science instruction; he wishes to maintain<br />

a healthy amount of contact hours teaching<br />

students who share his professional interests.<br />

Silmilly Toribio - was born and raised in the Dominican Republic<br />

where she completed her secondary<br />

education. Silmilly moved to the United<br />

States at the age of 16 and started her undergraduate<br />

studies at Hostos Community<br />

College. She transferred to the City College<br />

of New York (CCNY) where she<br />

graduated Magna Cum Laude with a<br />

Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and<br />

honors in Biochemistry Research.<br />

Richard A. Able Jr. - is a dedicated and persistent individual<br />

who has proven, through his academic and<br />

community involvement, to be passionate<br />

about the advancement of science. A native<br />

of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr.<br />

Able graduated with a BA in Biology<br />

from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.<br />

His collegiate experience was both<br />

challenging and stimulating.<br />

Amadou Diallo - was born in Guinea, West Africa and graduated<br />

from a technical high school in Mamou<br />

in 2002. After graduation, Amadou<br />

moved to the U.S. to pursue my studies in<br />

Engineering. After passing the TOEFEL,<br />

he was accepted at Bronx Community College<br />

in spring 2007.
