Scott Mays earned his B.S. in<br />

Mathematics from the University of<br />

Maryland Eastern Shore. He earned<br />

his M.A.T. in Secondary Mathematics<br />

from Oklahoma State University.<br />

Currently he is employed as a teacher<br />

in the Nashua, New Hampshire public<br />

schools.<br />

Brittany (nee Williams) Mays<br />

earned her B.S. in Plant Science from<br />

the University of Maryland Eastern<br />

Shore. She completed her M.S.<br />

program in Family Studies at<br />

Oklahoma State University.<br />

Currently, she is employed as a<br />

Marriage and Family Therapist.<br />

Shakira McCall is a senior majoring in<br />

Environmental Science and Technology<br />

at the University of Maryland, College<br />

Park (UMD). Currently, she participates<br />

in the LSAMP Undergraduate Research<br />

Program which enables her to explore<br />

her passion for alternative energy at the<br />

Sustainable Agriculture Research and<br />

Education (SARE). In 2012, she plans<br />

to publish a fact-sheet on active solar thermal panels in<br />

northern climates on SARE's national website, which is<br />

utilized by America’s agriculture community. She also is the<br />

National Society of Black Engineers’ Region II Membership<br />

Chairperson. She fosters community development by<br />

expanding the number of students who are actively involved<br />

and facilitates growth and development of international and<br />

national chapters. She is a member of the award-winning<br />

UMD Solar Decathlon team that placed first in the 2011<br />

national competition.<br />

Kyla A. McMullen earned her B.S.<br />

magna cum laude in Computer Science<br />

from the University of Maryland,<br />

Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2005. In<br />

addition to being an LSAMP student,<br />

she also was a McNair Scholar at<br />

UMBC. She investigates the use of<br />

auditory interfaces utilizing 3D audio to<br />

convey spatial information to a listener<br />

describing an unseen or obstructed<br />

environment. She has collaborated with the Naval Submarine<br />

Medical Research Laboratory regarding the adaptation of<br />

spatial audio in sonar applications. Her recent experience also<br />

includes serving as a lecturer in the Department of Computer<br />

Science at Wayne State University. She completed her M.S.<br />

in 2007, and she currently is a candidate in the final phase of<br />

her Ph.D. program in Computer Science and Engineering at<br />

the University of Michigan.<br />

Jame' E. McCray earned her B.S. in<br />

Biological Sciences with a minor in<br />

Geography and Environmental<br />

Systems from the University of<br />

Maryland, Baltimore County in 2002.<br />

She earned her M.A. in Marine Affairs<br />

at the University of Miami in 2004.<br />

Currently, she is enrolled in a Ph.D.<br />

program in Marine Biology at the University of Florida,<br />

Gainesville.<br />

Tyi L. McCray, Ph.D. earned her B.S.<br />

in Chemistry from the University of<br />

Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)<br />

in 2005. While at UMBC, she was<br />

named an Undergraduate Research<br />

Award Scholar and was mentored by<br />

Professor Dale L. Whalen to conduct<br />

her research titled Investigation of<br />

Epoxide Synthesis in Biphasic Reaction<br />

Conditions, and she presented her research at many<br />

conferences. During her doctoral studies, she conducted<br />

research on plants in South Africa and also in the Lab of Dr.<br />

Thomas Owens. She completed her Ph.D. program in Plant<br />

Biology at Cornell University where her research focused on<br />

the evaluation of secondary plant products for possible<br />

tuberculosis treatment.<br />

Jasmine McDonald, Ph.D. earned<br />

her B.S. in Biochemistry and<br />

Molecular Biology from the<br />

University of Maryland, Baltimore<br />

County in 2003. She completed her<br />

Ph.D. program in Biological<br />

Sciences in Public Health at Harvard<br />

University in 2009. She also has<br />

completed her postdoctoral<br />

fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Her<br />

postdoctoral work has culminated in four scholarly<br />

presentations, one published white paper, and two first-author<br />

papers. Currently, she is in the Cancer Epidemiology Training<br />

Program at the Columbia University Mailman School of<br />

Public Health.<br />

Aesha Minter earned her B.S. in<br />

Mathematics (with coursework in business<br />

management) from the University of<br />

Maryland, College Park in 2003. She also<br />

has completed two years (2009-11) of<br />

coursework in taxation, accounting, and<br />

finance at the University of Baltimore,<br />

Merrick School of Business. She<br />

participated in the 1997 LSAMP Summer Bridge Program.<br />

She was a College Park Scholar and a NSF Scholar, 1997-<br />

2003. In 2001, she received the LSAMP Outstanding Service<br />

Award for her involvement in campus organizations, student<br />

support services, and volunteerism in various on-campus<br />

tutoring programs. Currently, she works as a business tax<br />

auditor for the Comptroller of Maryland.<br />
