Abraham Georgia is a senior Nuclear<br />
Engineering major at South Carolina<br />
State University. He has received<br />
presidential pins for maintaining an<br />
outstanding GPA every year which open<br />
doors for him to intern at Y12 National<br />
Laboratory, SCSU, and Savannah River<br />
Laboratory since his freshman year. He<br />
realized STEM was for him when he<br />
interned at Savannah River Site. This<br />
opportunity allowed him to see the<br />
endless possibilities afforded to people in the STEM<br />
disciplines.<br />
Christine Jones is a 2011 graduate of<br />
South Carolina State University with a<br />
BS degree in Health Physics. Christine’s<br />
award winning research presentation was<br />
entitled “A Study on How Lichens Affect<br />
the Atmospheric Pollution of Metals<br />
along Interstate Highway I-26 in the<br />
Midlands and Low Country of South<br />
Carolina”. During 2010, Christine<br />
interned at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico.<br />
She is currently hired at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho.<br />
After receiving security clearance, she plans to attend graduate<br />
school fully funded by the Naval Reactors Facility.<br />
Ashley N. Graham, Miss SC State<br />
University 2010—2011, is a 2011<br />
graduate of South Carolina State<br />
University with a BS degree in Health<br />
Physics. She will grace the pages of<br />
the September 2011 HBCU<br />
(Historically Black Colleges and<br />
Universities) Queens issue of Ebony<br />
magazine. While at SC State, Graham<br />
participated in several activities and was a member of a<br />
number of organizations, to include: Sigma Pi Sigma National<br />
Physics Honors Society (Chapter Charter member) and<br />
American Nuclear Society; She is currently pursuing her<br />
Master’s Degree of Transportation at South Carolina State<br />
University.<br />
Brandon Miller is a graduate from<br />
South Carolina State University with a<br />
BS degree in Industrial Engineering<br />
Technology. Miller was recognized for<br />
saving funds for the Federal<br />
Government only months after being<br />
employed. When he was offered an<br />
intern position in 2007 at Crane, IN for<br />
minority students, he realized the<br />
importance of STEM. Currently he is<br />
employed at Rock Island Arsenal, IL and attending St.<br />
Ambrose University in Iowa to obtain his MBA. Miller is the<br />
Regional Program Manager for Left Behind Equipment.<br />
Dominick Kennerson is a 2002 graduate<br />
of SC State University and began<br />
participation in the SCAMP program is<br />
1998. He was awarded the Robert Bosch<br />
Foundation Fellowship for 2010-2011.<br />
Kennerson is currently a consultant<br />
with CryerHealth, a leading healthcare<br />
strategic alliance development firm. He<br />
has taught 5th and 6th graders at the<br />
KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program)<br />
Academy in Washington, D.C. and was recognized as City<br />
Year’s Idealist of the Year (2007) for that work. Mr.<br />
Kennerson received his Master’s in Health Services<br />
Management and Leadership at the George Washington.<br />
Deondre Glover is a 2011 Freshman<br />
majoring in Civil Engineering<br />
Technology at South Carolina State<br />
University. Glover is a 2011<br />
USDA/1890 National Scholar. He<br />
secured over $100,000 in a scholarship<br />
award and other benefits as a recipient<br />
of the scholarship. The scholar will also<br />
be given a summer internship for each<br />
academic year and guaranteed job placement with the U.S.<br />
Department of Agriculture after successful completion of his<br />
bachelor’s degree. The aspiring civil engineer also explored<br />
his interests by interning with engineering firm Palmetto<br />
Associates for Instruction, Research, Design and<br />
Development.<br />
Phillip Wilson is a 2011 senior<br />
majoring in Chemistry at South<br />
Carolina State University. Phillip is<br />
eligible to graduate a semester early<br />
due to enrolling in summer 2008<br />
with the Louis Stokes South<br />
Carolina Alliance for Minority<br />
Participation Program. In the<br />
summer of 2011, he was able to intern at Monsanto Co. in St.<br />
Louis, MO. The title of his project was: Method Validation<br />
CL and CLO in caustic. He has been involved in 1890<br />
leadership organization, honors college, SCSU Executive<br />
Leadership Council and a ACS member. He plans to attend<br />
law school.<br />
Kaliah Jackson, a junior chemistry<br />
major at South Carolina State<br />
University, captured first place for<br />
outstanding presentation at The<br />
National Organization of Black<br />
Chemists and Chemical Engineers<br />
(NOBCChE) 2010 Southeast<br />
Regional Meeting. Kaliah<br />
competed for and received the award at the NOBCChE 2010<br />
Southeast Regional Meeting, held in Atlanta, Ga. Her<br />
presentation was titled “Gold Nanoparticles as Inhibitors of<br />
Amyloid Aggregation in Alzheimer’s Disease.<br />
