Britney Smith, is a Senior Biology<br />

major with a minor in chemistry at<br />

Voorhees College. Britney has<br />

maintained over a 3.0 since her<br />

freshman year. She is a member of<br />

Elizabeth Evelyn Wright culture<br />

club, Rotaract club, Honors College,<br />

Pre- alumni council, Student Support<br />

Service, and a member of the<br />

Voorhees College cheerleader squad. During summer,<br />

participated in undergraduate research program at the Medical<br />

University of South Carolina where she worked on redox<br />

signaling in dysregulated in prostate cancer.<br />

Brionca Walker is currently a senior<br />

Biology major at Voorhees College.<br />

Brionca was inducted in Honors<br />

College the spring semester of her<br />

sophomore year. She participated in<br />

numerous internships during her<br />

matriculation at Voorhees College. Her<br />

first internship was at the University of<br />

Michigan and her second internship was<br />

at Voorhees College as a peer tutor for<br />

the e-MART program. Summer 2011, she participated in an<br />

Undergraduate Research program at the Medical College of<br />

Wisconsin this past summer working in the Mattson Research<br />

Lab.<br />

Monica M. Johnson is a Junior<br />

biology Major. She is a member of the<br />

Dean’s List, Alpha Kappa Mu, and<br />

Who’s Who Among Students In<br />

American Universities and Colleges..<br />

Monica receives the presidential and<br />

Life scholarship for having academic<br />

excellence also. Monica has been<br />

involved with E-Smart Day Camp last<br />

summer and she also had the<br />

opportunity to go to New Mexico State<br />

University for an internship this summer.<br />

Tyquan Parker is a 2011 graduate of<br />

Voorhees College with a BS degree in<br />

Computer Science. Mr. Parker<br />

completed internships with the<br />

Department of Energy’s National Nuclear<br />

Security Administration in such places as<br />

Aiken, SC, Las Vegas, NV, and<br />

Albuquerque, NM. “After my sophomore<br />

year at Voorhees through internship<br />

experience and the curriculum, I knew I could make a<br />

difference through STEM. I’m fortunate that Voorhees offered<br />

me the right tools to become successful!” said Mr. Parker.<br />

Tyquan is now an Associate Analyst in the Information<br />

Technology Leadership Program with Johnson and Johnson in<br />

Miami, Florida<br />

Nakeya S. Brown is a 2010 graduate<br />

of Voorhees College with a B. S.<br />

degree in Mathematics. Nakeya was<br />

awarded a Graduate Assistantship for<br />

the 2011-2012 Academic Year from<br />

The University of Arkansas in<br />

Fayetteville where she is working<br />

toward a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics. While at<br />

Voorhees, Brown was a NNSA Intern and was very involved<br />

in numerous activities and instrumental in getting others<br />

involved as well, member of Student Support Services<br />

Program, Circle K International, and The Mathematics and<br />

Computer Science Club, where she was President for two<br />

consecutive years.<br />

LaTonya F. R. Gillespie is a 2009<br />

graduate of Voorhees College with a BS<br />

degree in biology and minor in<br />

chemistry. With an intense curriculum<br />

Gillespie was a student athlete and<br />

served as Miss Voorhees College. . She<br />

is currently a 2 nd year Marquette<br />

University School of Dentistry student.<br />

LaTonya’s participated in internships at<br />

University of Massachusetts Medical School and Marquette<br />

University. LaTonya co-authored a publication in 2008 during<br />

her summer undergraduate research experience. LaTonya<br />

openly acknowledges that STEM programs and HCOP<br />

programs allowed her to advance her education as a minority<br />

along with steering her toward her dreams.<br />

Carrie Lenise Smith graduated cum<br />

laude from Voorhees College in 2008<br />

where she received a B.S. degree in<br />

Mathematics. Carrie was a member of<br />

the Mathematics and Computer Science<br />

Club, Sisters in Science, Minorities in<br />

Agriculture Natural Resources and<br />

Related Sciences (MANNRS), and the<br />

Voorhees College and Clemson<br />

University Project Export Tiger Team. Carrie tutored fellow<br />

classmates and local children, of Denmark, South Carolina, in<br />

mathematics. After graduating from Voorhees College, she<br />

returned to her former high school and became math teacher.<br />

She is currently enrolled in the MAT program at South<br />

Carolina State University.<br />

Tamara S. Webster, DDS, native of<br />

Stuart, VA, is a 2004 Summa Cum laude<br />

graduate of Voorhees College. She<br />

attended Howard University College of<br />

Dentistry to become a candidate for the<br />

degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery.<br />

While matriculating through HU, she<br />

served as class president her last two<br />

years of dental school and graduated 6 th<br />

in her class. She went on to complete a General Practice<br />

Residency at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia,<br />

SC. Tamara is currently one of the seven dentist working with<br />

a group practice called Danville Dental Associates in Danville,<br />

VA.<br />
