Yohaselly Santiago-Rodríguez graduated<br />
magna cum laude from University of Puerto<br />
Rico-Mayaguez (UPRM) with a B.S. degree in<br />
Chemical Engineering on May 2010. During her<br />
undergraduate studies, she received the<br />
Collegiate All-American Scholar Award at 2006.<br />
She is member of the honor societies Tau Beta<br />
Pi and Golden Key. In 2007, she was<br />
nominated to represent the United States and her university at<br />
the International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) Delegation<br />
on Engineering in China. She was a PR-LSAMP Scholar<br />
mentored by Dr. José Colucci in her research on Microalgae<br />
Harvesting by Application of an Ultrasonic Field. Her research<br />
findings were presented on 45 th JTM/30 th PRISM and XV Sigma<br />
Xi Poster Day. Currently she is pursuing a Ph.D. degree in<br />
Chemical Engineering with major on Computational Chemistry.<br />
at UPRM.<br />
Abner Ayala-Acevedo was born in<br />
Mayagüez, Puerto Rico in 1988. He received<br />
his B.S in Computer Engineering, with<br />
specialties in Computing Systems and<br />
Hardware & Embedded Systems, from the<br />
University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez in May<br />
2011. Abner participated in the LSAMP<br />
seminar series on engineering topics<br />
coordinated by Dr. Eduardo Ortiz. During<br />
Summer 2011, he joined the Human Ability and Accessibility<br />
Center at IBM Austin, TX. In Fall 2011, he started his PhD<br />
degree at Georgia Institute of Technology, GT-Bionics Lab. His<br />
main interests are assistive technology, mobile accessibility and<br />
brain-computer interface. His current research is focus on<br />
sensor signal processing for the Tongue Drive System.<br />
Angel J. Rosado is a senior in the Inter<br />
American University in Bayamon,<br />
majoring in Computer Science and he is<br />
a member of the Honor Society. He<br />
works as a tutor at the University for<br />
Computer Sciences classes. He<br />
received a distinction in 2010 and 2011<br />
by being included in the Dean’s List for<br />
his excellent academic performance.<br />
During the summer of 2011 he<br />
participated in an internship in the<br />
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) SURF<br />
(Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) Program. He is<br />
scheduled to graduate in May 2012.<br />

Rafael Yomar Nieves is currently<br />
pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial<br />
Chemistry at the Inter American<br />
University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón<br />
Campus. As a PR-LSAMP scholar he is<br />
currently studying the association<br />
between age and cuticle color of workers<br />
of the little fire ant W. auropunctata,<br />
researching the relation of juvenile<br />
hormone in the little fire ant using gas<br />
Dr. Eduardo I. Ortiz-Rivera. Since 2006, he is an<br />
assistant professor at the University of Puerto Rico-<br />
Mayaguez (UPRM), Electrical & Computer Engineering<br />
Department. Dr. Ortiz is the principal investigator and<br />
team leader of the Mathematical Modeling and Control<br />
of Renewable Energies for Advance Technology &<br />
Education (Minds 2 CREATE) Research Team and the PR-LSAMP<br />
Mentoring Program Coordinator. At UPRM, he has been mentor of<br />
more than 40 undergraduate and 9 graduate students. In 2010 he<br />
received the Distinguished Professor award of the UPRM’s ECE<br />
Department for his contributions in research, teaching, and service<br />
to the community. He did his Ph.D (2006). & MSEE (2002) at<br />
Michigan State University and his BSEE (2000) at UPRM. Dr. Ortiz<br />
has worked at Argonne National Laboratory, Naval Research<br />
laboratory, Chinese Academy of Sciences.<br />

Cristian A. Lopez-Martinez is working<br />
in his BS degree in Electrical<br />
Engineering. In the summer of 2010 he<br />
participated in WESEP REU Iowa State<br />
University (Wind Energy Science,<br />
Engineering and Policy Research<br />
Experience for Undergraduates. His<br />
summer experience was a 10-week<br />
program where he took courses, worked<br />
on two research projects, took different<br />
tours and met industry people related to wind energy, wind<br />
turbines and similar topics. This experience helped him in the<br />
following publication: “Modeling Operational Effects of Variable<br />
Generation within National Long-term Infrastructure Planning<br />
software”, co-author with Venkat Krishnan, Trishna Das, Eduardo<br />
Ibanez and James D. McCalley. Submitted to IEEE Transactions<br />
on Sustainable Energy.<br />
Juan G. Rosado-Colon attends the Inter<br />
American University of Puerto Rico<br />
Bayamon Campus. He is currently a<br />
sophomore student in Computer Science.<br />
He currently participates in the LSAMP<br />
Undergraduate Research Program working<br />
in the development of a CubeSat, with<br />
Flight Software. During the summer of<br />
2011 he participated in a summer<br />
internship developing the code for the GPS and the Attitude<br />
Determination System for a CubeSat prototype. He also<br />
participated in the Integration of the payload at the NASA Columbia<br />
Scientific Balloon Facility.<br />
Rafael Fernandez-Casas obtained his<br />
bachelor degree from the Inter American<br />
University Bayamón Campus in Biology<br />
2011. As an undergraduate student he<br />
performed research under the mentorship of<br />
Dr. Bert Rivera-Marchand sponsored by the<br />
Undergraduate Research Component of PR-<br />
LSAMP. He has participated in several<br />
scientific conferences sponsored by PR-<br />
LSAMP to present his research work.<br />
Rafael has served as peer mentor an . currently he is pursuing his<br />
master’s degree in Environmental and Ecological Sciences at the<br />
Inter American University Bayamon Campus.
