Karyce Shumpert (’14) is a sophomore at<br />
Purdue University West Lafayette and is<br />
studying Biology. She was a participant in<br />
Academic Boot Camp in the summer of<br />
2010 and an undergraduate researcher in<br />
the LSAMP Summer 2011 Research<br />
program. Post-graduation, Karyce intends<br />
on attending graduate school in pursuit of a<br />
Jenn Siriwardane (’13) is studying biology<br />
and psychology at Indiana University<br />
Bloomington. She is a member of the Hudson<br />
& Holland Scholars Program, the Hutton<br />
Honors College, and a recipient of the IU<br />
Excellence Scholarship. She has done<br />
bioinformatics research with Dr. Matthew<br />
Hahn and is also a member of Congress for the<br />
Indiana University Student Association. Jenn<br />
plans to go to medical school after college.<br />
Clarice Smith (’12) is a senior studying<br />
Mechanical Engineering Technology at Purdue<br />
University West Lafayette, and has participated<br />
in LSAMP Undergraduate Research. Postgraduation,<br />
Clarice would like to procure<br />
employment in a rotational development<br />
program in a manufacturing or production<br />
environment.<br />
Jessica Smith (’07) is a medical student at the<br />
West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in<br />
Lewisburg, West Virginia. She earned a Biology<br />
degree from Indiana University Bloomington in<br />
2007 where she served as a LSAMP peer mentor<br />
and was actively involved in numerous campus<br />
initiative supporting STEM fields.<br />
Zikomo Smith (’12) is currently a senior at<br />
Purdue University West Lafayette studying<br />
Mechanical Engineering. Zikomo has served as<br />
the President for the National Society of Black<br />
Engineers twice (2009- 2010 and 2008- 2009).<br />
Zikomo has served as an intern twice for Air<br />
Products and Chemicals, Inc. in Allentown,<br />
PA. Post-graduation, Zikomo plans to pursue a<br />
career in either controls or the application of<br />
the heat and fluid sciences in industry.<br />
Mychael Spencer ('13) is a junior majoring in<br />
biology with minors in social science and<br />
medicine and in chemistry. Mychael sits on the<br />
Executive Board for the Minority Association<br />
of Premedical Students, is a Student Director<br />
for the IU Office of Admissions, and is a<br />
scholar in the Hudson & Holland Scholars<br />
Program. He plans to attend medical school<br />
upon his graduation from Indiana University.<br />
Kehara Taylor (’15) is a freshman studying<br />
Core Mathematics at Purdue University West<br />
Lafayette. Post-graduation, she plans to<br />
continue her education in Graduate School.<br />
Marquel Thompson (’14) is currently a sophomore at Purdue<br />
University West Lafayette studying<br />
engineering. Marquel is a participant in the<br />
LSAMP Sophomore Research Based<br />
Learning Community and has obtained an<br />
internship with Rolls- Royce for the spring<br />
2012. Post-graduation he plans to either<br />
work in industry, hopefully Rolls- Royce, or<br />
enter a graduate program to study<br />
Aeronautical Engineering.<br />
Beatrice Thungu (’10) graduated from IUPUI<br />
in 2010 with a B.A.in Biology. Beatrice<br />
conducted research in Bio- informatics and is<br />
currently a student at George Washington<br />
Medical College.<br />
Juliet Thungu (’14) is a sophomore at Indiana University<br />
Bloomington. During the summer of 2011,<br />
Juliet has been researching the motility of<br />
bacterial cells in the laboratory of Professor<br />
Clay Fuqua. She will begin her role as peer<br />
mentor for a freshman LSAMP scholar this<br />
year and has recently returned from a study<br />
abroad experience in Ghana, Africa. Juliet is<br />
pursuing a B.S. in Biology.<br />
Oscar Trejo- Soria (’13) is a junior at Purdue University pursuing<br />
a degree in Computer Science. Oscar was<br />
inspired by his father who worked with the<br />
very first computers that were in Mexico.<br />
Since then, he has loved everything about<br />
computers. After graduation Oscar plans to<br />
attend Graduate School and aspires to<br />
eventually gain employment in one of the<br />
top ten computer companies such as Windows, HP, Apple or Intel<br />
Otteria Trimble ('13) is studying community health at Indiana<br />
University Bloomington. She is a member of<br />
the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program,<br />
Minority Association of Pre-Medical<br />
Students, NAACP, and is the interim First<br />
Vice President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,<br />
Inc. Upon graduating, Otteria plans to either<br />
attend medical school in Florida or Indiana or<br />
go to graduate school to obtain a Master of<br />
Science in Medical Science.
