Joan Manuel Dela Cruz, is currently pursuing a BS/MS in<br />

Mechanical Engineering and is in the<br />

fourth year of the five year BS/MS co-op<br />

program. He first performed a Summer<br />

Internship with Sikorsky Aircraft<br />

Corporation in Stratford, CT. Joan<br />

created and analyzed damage<br />

calculations and S-N (load cycle) curves<br />

for S-76 tail rotor components which were based on previous<br />

fatigue testing. He is a recipient of the Igor Sikorsky<br />

Scholarship and has been an active member of the NU SHPE<br />

(Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers). He also cofounded<br />

a new student organization on campus known as<br />

DRYVE (Dominican Republic Youth Volunteer Efforts<br />

Gidley Dorlus, is pursuing a BS/MS in Mechanical<br />

Engineering and is currently in the fourth<br />

year of the five year BS/MS program. In<br />

addition to being in the joint BS/MS<br />

program, he wants to get an MBA in the<br />

future. Gidley participated in an REU at<br />

Harvard University. After completing his<br />

first co-op, Gidley applied to and became<br />

the third NU recipient of the Igor<br />

Sikorsky Scholarship Program. He has been the Academic<br />

Excellence Chair of BESS (Black Engineering Student<br />

Society), which is the NU NSBE (National Society of Black<br />

Engineers) student chapter and Public Relations Coordinator<br />

of HSU (Haitian Student Unity). Gidley was also a participant<br />

of the 2008 LSAMP Summer Bridge Program as an incoming<br />

freshman.<br />

Christian Mantilla, is currently in his fourth year at<br />

Northeastern University. He is pursuing a<br />

BS in Chemical Engineering. He is in the<br />

Honors Program and has served as an RA<br />

for the Honors LLC. He had his first coop<br />

working for EMD Pharmaceuticals in<br />

Cambridge, MA. He is also a member of<br />

NU SHPE (Society of Hispanic<br />

Professional Engineers), and has been a<br />

member of BESS (Black Engineering<br />

Student Society) and EWB (Engineers Without Borders). As<br />

a member of EWB, Christian traveled to Honduras, Central<br />

America to help assess, design, develop and implement a fresh<br />

drinking water delivery system into a targeted village<br />

Christian is a former 2008 LSAMP Summer Bridge student<br />

participant as an incoming freshman.<br />

Rochelle Willis is from Boston, MA and received the Boston<br />

Public School Scholarship to attend<br />

Northeastern University. She is a fourth year<br />

student who is currently pursuing a BS in<br />

Civil Engineering scheduled to graduate in<br />

2013. She plans to attend graduate school in<br />

the Fall of 2013. She is a member of Chi<br />

Epsilon, the Civil Engineering Honor<br />

Society, where she serves as webmaster. She has served as the<br />

PCI (Pre-Collegiate Initiative) Chair for the BESS chapter of<br />

NSBE and is currently the Academic Excellence Chair.<br />

Rochelle has also served as Secretary for CSO (Caribbean<br />

Student Organization) and is currently Vice President.<br />

Justin White is a fourth year BS Computer Engineering<br />

Honors student and Reggie Lewis<br />

Scholarship recipient. He was a<br />

Gordon-CenSSIS Scholar and<br />

performed an REU Summer of 2009 at<br />

Northeastern University Gordon-<br />

CenSSIS Engineering Research Center<br />

working to accelerate CT imaging<br />

reconstruction. Currently, Justin is<br />

employed for his second co-op for the US Government – as a<br />

Student Trainee in Washington, DC, where he has received a<br />

complete background check and secret security clearance.<br />

Babatunde “Baba” Ogunfemi, is in his fourth year pursuing<br />

a dual major BS in Electrical and<br />

Computer Engineering (ECE) as a member<br />

of the class of 2013Baba has participated<br />

in two co-ops and has done study abroad in<br />

Paris, France where he was able to study<br />

parallel programming and supply chain.<br />

As an active member of NSBE, Baba was<br />

selected to receive a Scholarship Award<br />

from the Board of Corporate Affiliates (BCA) at the 2010<br />

NSBE Annual Convention held in Ontario, Canada. He is<br />

planning to go to graduate school. Baba was a participant in<br />

the 2008 LSAMP Summer Bridge Program as an incoming<br />

freshman.<br />

Sarah Sanchez is in her third year of a five year co-op<br />

program pursuing a double major BS in<br />

Civil Engineering and BS in<br />

Environmental Science as a member of the<br />

graduating class of 2014. Sarah is<br />

currently Vice President of External<br />

Affairs for the NU SHPE (Society of<br />

Hispanic Professional Engineers) chapter. Sarah is a CenSSIS<br />

Scholar who performed environmental engineering<br />

undergraduate research during the Summer of 2010, with<br />

Professor Ferdi Hellweger. Her research involved the testing<br />

of the Charles River and the effort being undertaken to clean<br />

up and reclaim the Charles River for possible swimming by<br />

the public. The research she performed essentially involved<br />

E.coli testing on the Charles River. Sarah was a participant in<br />

the 2009 LSAMP Summer Bridge Program as an incoming<br />

freshman.<br />

Samantha Kendrick is in her third year pursuing a BS in<br />

Civil Engineering and a Minor in Mathematics. She<br />

participated in a 2010 Summer REU as a Gordon-CenSSIS<br />

Scholar. Samantha worked with Professor Akram<br />

Alshawabkeh on the PROTECT project<br />

(Puerto Rico Testsite for Exploring<br />

Contamination Threats) for her Summer<br />

REU. She researched contamination<br />

waste sites and hazardous sites in Puerto<br />

Rico in the efforts of finding long term<br />

sustainable solutions to cleanup the sites.<br />

Samantha has been an active member of SWE (Society of<br />

Women Engineers) and BESS (Black Engineering Student<br />
