Brice Cannon performed research for the European<br />

Organization for Nuclear Research at<br />

the University of Arizona, and<br />

participated in a cultural immersion<br />

experience in Cairo, Egypt. He<br />

received his B.S. degrees in Optical<br />

Engineering and Applied Mathematics<br />

from Norfolk State University, May<br />

2009. He is currently a Bridge to the<br />

Doctorate Fellow at the University of<br />

Maryland Baltimore County and a Ph.D. candidate in the<br />

Electrical Engineering program concentrating on photonics.<br />

Dr. Nicholas Lumsden and Dr. Kimberly Lumsden are<br />

2004 graduates of Norfolk State<br />

University from the department of<br />

Chemistry. While at NSU, both<br />

received the Dozoretz National<br />

Institute for Mathematics and Applied<br />

Sciences Scholarship. Upon<br />

graduation, Nicholas attended Eastern<br />

Virginia Medical School where he<br />

earned his M.D. in 2008; Kimberly<br />

obtained her M.D. degree from Penn<br />

State University. The former NSU alumni were married in<br />

May 2008. In 2011, the couple opened their first family<br />

medical practice.<br />

Dr. Arthur Reynolds received the Doctor of Dental Surgery<br />

(D.D.S.) degree from the University of<br />

North Carolina at Chapel Hill, May<br />

2011. He completed his undergraduate<br />

work at Norfolk State University as a<br />

Physics major and WBHR-LSAMP<br />

scholar. Dr. Reynolds was selected to<br />

present his research at several NSF<br />

funded conferences including HBCU-<br />

UP Undergraduate Research Symposium. Dr. Reynolds is<br />

currently practicing dentistry in North Carolina.<br />

Dr. Jamila Crawford is an Obstetrics and Gynecology<br />

resident at the Texas Tech University School of Medicine.<br />

She is a 2003 graduate of Norfolk State<br />

University (NSU) with a B.S. degree in<br />

Biology Pre-Med and was the recipient of<br />

the WBHR-LSAMP research scholarship.<br />

She was a NSU student representative at<br />

the Thurgood Marshall Leadership<br />

Institute and Black Engineer of the Year<br />

Awards Conference. She earned her MD degree from the<br />

Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in<br />

Greenville, NC.<br />

Phillip Hayes Jr. is the recipient of the Indiana Space Grant<br />

Consortium Masters Fellowship at Purdue<br />

University. He graduated with honors from<br />

Norfolk State University in May 2008 with<br />

a B.S. in computer Science. He interned<br />

with the National Association of<br />

Mathematics and Computational Science<br />

Institute, NASA, and Carnegie Mellon University. Phillip’s<br />

contributions to the project “Inventor’s Desk,” won him 2nd<br />

place at the Window Media Player Skins Challenge<br />

sponsored by Microsoft in 2007.<br />

Brandon Little-Darku’s presentation on “Engineering<br />

Education Using Robotics” yielded him 1 st Place at the<br />

WBHR-LSAMP Research Poster<br />

Competition in 2006. He received<br />

other awards also, Brandon received a<br />

B.S. degree from Norfolk State<br />

University and M.S. in Electronics<br />

Engineering with a concentration in<br />

RF Integrated Circuit Design and<br />

Bioelectrics in 2010 from Boston<br />

University. He currently works as an<br />

Electrical Engineer for the U.S. Department of the Army at<br />

Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.<br />

Jared Dixon participated in a cultural immersion experience<br />

in China and received a full<br />

academic scholarship from the<br />

Dozoretz National Institute for<br />

Mathematics and Applied Sciences<br />

(DNIMAS) program where he was<br />

a HBCU-UP scholar and tutor.<br />

Jared received the B.S. degree in<br />

Optical Engineering from Norfolk State University. He is<br />

currently a graduate student at the University of Maryland<br />

Baltimore County working with Dr. Anthony Johnson in<br />

ultra-fast spectroscopy.<br />

Jerrod Young conducted research on at Norfolk State<br />

University (NSU) under the WBHR-LSAMP Program.<br />

Jerrod received his B.S. in Optical<br />

Engineering from NSU in May 2010.<br />

He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at<br />

the University of Arizona, College of<br />

Optical Science, and co-op in the<br />

optics branch for NASA Goddard<br />

Space Flight Center. He also served<br />

as intern with CREOL: College of Optics and Photonics,<br />

University of Central Florida Materials Research Sciences<br />

and Engineering Center (MRSEC), University of Maryland,<br />

College Park, MD.<br />
