Michael Maness earned both his B.S.<br />

and M.S. in Civil Engineering from the<br />

University of Maryland, College Park<br />

(UMD). He was awarded a 2008-10<br />

LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate<br />

Fellowship. Currently, he is a Ph.D.<br />

student in Civil Engineering at UMD.<br />

His research interests include travel<br />

demand modeling, travel behavior<br />

analysis, and sustainable transportation.<br />

Nkabuije Z. Maduike earned his<br />

B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular<br />

Biology from the University of<br />

Maryland, Baltimore County in 2002.<br />

Currently, he is enrolled in a Ph.D.<br />

program at Duke University.<br />

Sabrina Mapp earned her B.S. in<br />

Computer Science from the University<br />

of Maryland Eastern Shore. After<br />

graduation, she worked on projects for<br />

IBM, The National Geographic Society,<br />

and The U.S. Office of Personnel<br />

Management. She currently works at<br />

Georgetown University Law Center<br />

where she is a Senior Web Developer and Distributed<br />

Authoring Manager. She is tasked with developing websites<br />

for the Law Center and administering the Content<br />

Management System that runs the website including training<br />

more than 130 users on the system. In her spare time, she<br />

owns a business, Haute Sugar, which combines her loves of<br />

desserts and baking with event design and décor.<br />

William Lee Mapp, III is President of<br />

BA Systems, LLC, a Washington, DCbased<br />

enterprise specializing in RFID<br />

solutions and enterprise database<br />

technologies. He graduated cum laude<br />

from University of Maryland Eastern<br />

Shore in 1999 and began his career<br />

working for the Fortune 500 companies,<br />

IBM and Lockheed Martin. In 2003, he<br />

co-founded BA Systems, launching his executive career.<br />

Under his leadership, BA Systems has deployed projects<br />

valued over $1 billion in more than 23 countries. Recognized<br />

as a technology leader, the company has won the Top 100<br />

Minority Business Enterprise Award for the Washington-<br />

Baltimore region for two years and won the Top 100 MBE<br />

Award from Diversity Business Magazine for two years.<br />

Through this recognition, Mapp is sought after as an advisor,<br />

serves as the Chairman of Maryland Hawk Corporation, and<br />

participates on advisory panels for ITT Technical Institute and<br />

Potomac College. He also is a recognized radio personality,<br />

hosting a bi-monthly radio show speaking about the<br />

intersection of business and technology on WEEA 88.9 FM.<br />

Isaac A. Matthews earned his B.S.<br />

magna cum laude in Mechanical<br />

Engineering from the University of<br />

Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in<br />

2007. He is a well rounded scholar and<br />

athlete. While at UMBC, he helped the<br />

next generation by serving as a dedicated<br />

mentor and tutor to young African-<br />

American middle and high school students. He also served as<br />

treasurer for UMBC's chapter of the National Society of Black<br />

Engineers, and he gave motivational talks to NASA Sharp<br />

students. He was a four-year track and field letterman, and he<br />

received national recognition when he was named the 2007<br />

Arthur Ashe, Jr. Male Sports Scholar of the Year. He also is<br />

an accomplished cellist. In 2010, he completed both his S.M.<br />

in Nuclear Science and Engineering and his S.M. in<br />

Technology and Policy at the Massachusetts Institute of<br />

Technology (MIT). Currently, he is a doctoral student at MIT.<br />

Alvin S. May, II, M.D. earned his B.S.<br />

magna cum laude in Biochemistry and<br />

Molecular Biology from the University of<br />

Maryland, Baltimore County in 1999. He<br />

also graduated with Departmental Honors<br />

and an Honors College Undergraduate<br />

Certificate. He completed his M.D.<br />

program at Harvard University in 2004. He<br />

practices general surgery.<br />

Jhilya F. Mayas, Ph.D. earned her B.S. in<br />

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from<br />

the University of Maryland, Baltimore<br />

County in 2000. She completed her Ph.D.<br />

program in Microbiology at New York<br />

University in 2008. Currently, she is Vice<br />

President, Group Scientific Supervisor at<br />

Ogilvy Healthworld; Scientific Advisor for<br />

The MayaTech Corporation (attends scientific conferences<br />

and advises the CEO on emerging biotechnology investments<br />

and applications); and a Private Tutor for Partners with<br />

Parents (conducts private tutoring sessions with high-school<br />

students, focusing on math, science, and organizational skills).<br />

Rabiah M. Mayas, Ph.D. earned her B.S.<br />

in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology<br />

with a minor in Modern Languages and<br />

Linguistics (French) from the University<br />

of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2000.<br />

She went on to complete her M.S. and<br />

Ph.D. (2007) programs in Biochemistry<br />

and Molecular Biology at the University<br />

of Chicago. She is currently Science<br />

Director, Science Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry.<br />

Her “long-term career goals are focused on bridging the divide<br />

between the medical and scientific community and the public<br />

at-large.” She is “particularly interested in the development of<br />

effective public health and science education strategies for<br />

underserved urban regions, rural communities, and in<br />

developing nations.”
