Christina Abate is starting her senior<br />
year at Binghamton University (BU),<br />
majoring in Mechanical Engineering<br />
with a concentration in Sustainable<br />
Engineering. She participated in the<br />
2011 LSAMP Summer Research<br />
Program, conducting research and<br />
implementing a water distribution<br />
system in Rio Hondo, Honduras under<br />
the direction of Drs. Daryl Santos and Raymond Barnes.<br />
Christina is currently the Vice President of the Society of<br />
Hispanic Professional Engineers chapter at BU.<br />
Crystal Blair is currently a senior<br />
majoring in Biology at Binghamton<br />
University. Crystal transferred to BU<br />
from Owesgo, State University of New<br />
York in Spring 2010. This past summer<br />
she participated in the BU LSAMP 2011<br />
Summer Research Program, conducting<br />
research that focused on the expression<br />
patterns of NADPH oxidase subunits in<br />
NGF- treated PC12 cells. Upon<br />
completing her B.S., Crystal plans to<br />
pursue a Master’s and Ph.D. in Public Health so that she can<br />
continue research as well as apply her research outside of the<br />
lab to improve the lives of others in the greater community.<br />
Marie Coralie Brutus graduated from<br />
Binghamton University with a B.S. in<br />
Industrial and Systems Engineering in<br />
2011 with a GPA of 3.9/4.0. She joined<br />
LSAMP her sophomore year and<br />
participated in the Science Undergraduate<br />
Laboratory Internships (SULI) at<br />
Brookhaven National Laboratory for two<br />
consecutive summers. Her senior project<br />
and 2011 LSAMP summer research<br />
involved the design and construction of a water distribution<br />
system in Rio Hondo, a small community in rural Honduras.<br />
Coralie received the Binghamton University President’s<br />
Award for Undergraduate Student Excellence in Spring 2011.<br />
She is currently pursing her M.S. in Industrial Engineering at<br />
Pennsylvania State University, with funding.<br />

Dr. Susan Campbell graduated from<br />
Binghamton University with a B.S. in<br />
Psychobiology in 1997. Dr. Campbell<br />
credits her experience as an<br />
undergraduate research assistant in<br />
determining her career path. She received<br />
her Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the<br />
University at Alabama (UAB) in 2005.<br />
Since 2010 Dr. Campbell has worked as the Associate<br />
Director for Research, Outreach and<br />
Development/Postdoctoral Fellow at the UAB’s Civitan<br />
International Research Center (CIRC). CIRC is an<br />
interdisciplinary center dedicated to improving lives through<br />
brain research and treatment of developmental disabilities.<br />
Steven Collazos graduated from<br />
Binghamton University with a B.S. in<br />
Mathematical Sciences and a minor in<br />
Physics in August 2011. In the<br />
summers of 2009 and 2010 he<br />
participated in the Rice University<br />
Summer Institute of Statistics NSF<br />
REU. Steven participated in the 2011<br />
BU LSAMP/McNair Summer<br />
Research Program, conducting research under the direction of<br />
Dr. Matthias Beck, Associate Professor of Mathematics at San<br />
Francisco State University (SFSU). He is in his first semester<br />
of the M.S. in Mathematics Program at SFSU with funding,<br />
and intends to pursue a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics.<br />
Ph.D. Candidate, Giancarlo (John)<br />
Cuadra graduated in 2004 from<br />
Binghamton University with a B.S. in<br />
Biological Sciences, Cell and<br />
Molecular Biology. John began his<br />
undergraduate career at Rockland<br />
Community College, receiving his A.S.<br />
in Mathematics and Science and<br />
working as an undergraduate research<br />
assistant at BU in 1999 through the<br />
NIH funded Bridges to the Baccalaureate program. Giancarlo<br />
expects to complete his is PhD in Biological Sciences at<br />
Binghamton in Spring 2011. Giancarlo is married and the<br />
proud father of two boys and a baby girl.
