Brian M. Collins is a 2011 graduate of South Carolina State<br />

University with a BS degree in<br />

Computer Science. He graduated with<br />

the 2 nd highest GPA in his major.<br />

Collins says his internship experience<br />

in Aiken, SC with Savannah River<br />

Nuclear Solutions for two years<br />

helped him realize the demand for<br />

STEM majors and wanted to continue<br />

to pursue a career in Computer<br />

Science. Collins is currently employed<br />

at SPAWAR in Charleston, SC an<br />

acquisition command for the Department of Defense.<br />

Shannon Blair graduated in three<br />

years from South Carolina State<br />

University with a BS degree in<br />

Biology and a Chemistry minor. She<br />

is a member of the American Physical<br />

Therapy Association (APTA).<br />

Presently, Shannon is earning a<br />

Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Touro<br />

University Nevada. She hopes to<br />

specialize in neurology. Shannon says she wants to have her<br />

own practice, specializing in patients with neurological<br />

disorders or impairments, and says "I’m excited about the day<br />

when I will be referred to as Dr. Blair".<br />

Cedrick M. Collins 2010 graduate of<br />

South Carolina State University with a<br />

BS degree in Computer Science. Collins<br />

credits his research experience at one of<br />

the Nation’s Top Laboratory (Oak Ridge<br />

National Laboratory) working on High<br />

Speed Computing with Dr. Lee Hively,<br />

with helping to shape his desire to for a<br />

technology career working for the<br />

government. He is currently working for<br />

the DoD (Department of Defense) and serves as the Lead<br />

Front-End Developer and also over several other parts of the<br />

project. Collins believes the LSCAMP program played a<br />

critical part in his success.<br />

A South Carolina native, Dr.<br />

Ethell Vereen, Jr. is an emerging<br />

leader in the environmental arena.<br />

He received his BS degree in<br />

Professional Biology with a minor<br />

in Chemistry from South Carolina<br />

State University in 2002. He<br />

immediately attended the<br />

University of Georgia (UGA)<br />

where he received his MS degree in Environmental Health<br />

Science in 2005 and in 2010 he earned his PhD in Ecology<br />

from the UGA Odum School of Ecology. Dr. Vereen is a<br />

Postdoctoral FIRST Fellow at Emory University in the Rollins<br />

School of Public Health and the Center for Global Safe Water.<br />

Jonathan Evans is a 2010 graduate of<br />

South Carolina State University with a<br />

BS degree in Nuclear Engineering.<br />

Jonathan is currently working for the<br />

Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a<br />

General Engineer in the Nuclear Safety<br />

and Professional Development Program<br />

in the Division of Risk Assessment in<br />

Nuclear Reactor Regulation. Jonathan<br />

believes that his internship experience at Harvard University<br />

made him realize how important STEM is for minorities. He<br />

is now currently networking with many professionals to place<br />

minorities in prestigious programs.<br />

Quincy F. Mack is a 2009 graduate<br />

of South Carolina State University<br />

with a BS degree in Mechanical<br />

Engineering Technology. Quincy’s<br />

internship at the Department of<br />

Energy Headquarters helped him<br />

realize the importance of STEM and<br />

his pursuit of knowledge in the<br />

engineering realm. He is currently<br />

employed by Newport News Shipbuilding and works in the<br />

Nuclear Reactor Services Engineering Department. He will<br />

begin pursuing a MS degree in Environmental Engineering<br />

from Old Dominion University in January 2012.<br />

Samantha Jones, is a 2011 graduate of South Carolina State<br />

University with a BS Degree in Biology. Samantha interned<br />

at USDA-ARS and received 3 rd Place in Biological Science<br />

Presentations at the LS-SCAMP<br />

Summer Research Conference (2008)<br />

which resulted in a joint publication in<br />

Journal of Agricultural and Food<br />

Chemistry. She also interned with the<br />

Department of Defense, and the<br />

Medical University of South Carolina-<br />

Hollings Cancer Center. Samantha is<br />

currently pursuing a Doctor of<br />

Philosophy degree in Pharmaceutical<br />

Sciences at Florida Agricultural and<br />

Mechanical University.<br />

Aja Jhamerria Grant is a May 2005 graduate of South<br />

Carolina State University with a BS degree in Computer<br />

Science. She began her career at<br />

Duke Energy in June 2005 where<br />

she is still employed. She realized<br />

that STEM was for her when she<br />

saw how dedicated and committed<br />

Dr. Salley and Ms. Drayton are to<br />

the program, and interest and hearts<br />

of the students. Grant is currently<br />

enrolled at Strayer University where<br />

she is pursuing her Masters of<br />

Education concentrating in<br />

Education Management.
