Bethany N. Smith is a 2006 graduate of<br />
South Carolina State University with a BS<br />
degree in Biology. She is also a graduate<br />
of Delaware State University’s Bridge to<br />
the Doctorate Program with an MS degree<br />
in Genetics. During her MS program she<br />
worked as a research specialist at the<br />
Medical University of South Carolina’s<br />
Hollings Cancer Center in the Department<br />
of Surgical Oncology. She is currently in the PhD program<br />
studying cancer biology at Clark Atlanta University where she<br />
is a Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS) and<br />
Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE)<br />
Scholar.<br />
Na’Im R. Moses, Esq., is a 2002<br />
graduate of South Carolina State<br />
University with a BS degree in<br />
Professional Biology. He earned his<br />
Masters Degree in Health Services<br />
Administration from The George<br />
Washington University in 2005. He<br />
earned his Juris Doctorate from<br />
Howard University in 2010. Although<br />
Na’Im went on to a career in law, he accredits much of his<br />
success to the training he received while a student in the<br />
Biological Sciences Department. The analytical and research<br />
skills he developed while at State have proven invaluable in<br />
his current career. Na’Im is currently an Associate at a law<br />
firm in Washington, DC.<br />
Stacey Turner is a 2008 graduate of<br />
South Carolina State University with a<br />
BS degree in Chemistry and double<br />
minor in Radiochemistry and Biology.<br />
Stacey has had internships with the<br />
USDA Cotton Research Center,<br />
Clemson University, and is currently an<br />
intern with Rite Aid Pharmacy. LSAMP<br />
helped mold Stacey into the student she<br />
has become by equipping her with the study skills needed for<br />
graduate school. She is currently a second year student at<br />
Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy in Clinton, SC<br />
where she will receive her Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2014.<br />
Frederick Parker is a 2009 Magna<br />
Cum Laude graduate of South<br />
Carolina State University with a BS<br />
degree in Biology. Frederick says the<br />
moment he fell in love with SCAMP<br />
occurred during his summer<br />
internship in Athens, GA at the<br />
United States Department of<br />
Agriculture. The opportunity to work<br />
with well respected Ph.D.’s in the field of biology was<br />
definitely fulfilling. Frederick is currently attending the<br />
Medical University of South Carolina, where he is in studying<br />
for a career as a Physician Assistant.<br />

William L. Bright, is a graduate of<br />
South Carolina State University with<br />
a BS degrees in Biological Sciences.<br />
He joined the US Navy as a military<br />
officer and is currently supporting<br />
troops on the ground through<br />
Operation Enduring Freedom. The<br />
internship opportunities and advice<br />
SCAMP provided taught him the<br />
valuable traits of perseverance, motivation, and determination.<br />
His future goals include attaining a Ph.D from UGA and<br />
working with the CDC with a military management<br />
background. He is honored to aid and facilitate in the freedom<br />
of others reaching their goals.<br />
Martavis D. Parker is a 2010 graduate of<br />
South Carolina State University with a B.S.<br />
degree in Computer Science. At SCSU,<br />
Martavis became co-founder of the SCSU<br />
Chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon. He<br />
interned at Santee Cooper in Moncks<br />
Corner, SC and the Central Intelligence<br />
Agency in Washington, DC. The love and<br />
support of the LSAMP mentors and staff<br />
allowed Martavis to gain a position before<br />
graduation at the Harris Corporation in<br />
Northern Virginia as a Software Engineer. Recently, he<br />
accepted a position for Assurance Systems, Inc., in Norcross,<br />
GA.<br />
Nicholas Cluster is a 2001 & 2003<br />
graduate of South Carolina State<br />
University with a BS degree in<br />
Mathematics and MAT in<br />
Mathematics Education. He was<br />
recognized at the “2007 SCSU<br />
Foundation Scholarship Foundation<br />
Gala” as one of SCSU’s “Shining<br />
Young Alumni” for his outstanding<br />
academic work. Cluster says the SCAMP tutoring sessions<br />
rekindled his love for mathematics and ultimately led to the<br />
realization that teaching mathematics was the career for him.<br />
Cluster is currently a doctoral candidate in Mathematics<br />
Education at the University of Georgia.<br />
Samuel A. Sojourner is a 2009<br />
graduate of South Carolina State<br />
University with a BS degree in<br />
Biology. He is currently enrolled at<br />
Delaware State University as a Bridge<br />
to the Doctorate student in Food<br />
Science Microbiology. Samuel<br />
realized fully the value of SCAMP<br />
while interning at the Russell Research Center Athens, GA<br />
with USDA-ARS in 2006 and 2007 as a lab assistant in the<br />
Poultry Processing and Swine Physiology Unit.
