Cylburn E. Soden, Jr., M.D. earned his<br />
B.S. cum laude in Biochemistry and<br />
Molecular Biology from the University of<br />
Maryland, Baltimore County in 1999. He<br />
also graduated with Departmental Honors.<br />
He completed his M.D. program at<br />
Washington University in 2003. After his<br />
residency, he served as a practicing<br />
Dermatologist in the US Army at Ft. Bragg, NC. During his<br />
final years in the military, he proudly served as a general<br />
medical officer in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He<br />
attained the rank of Major before exiting the military in 2010.<br />
Currently, he is a board-certified dermatologist practicing in<br />
Maryland.<br />
Jamison Smith is pursuing a B.S. in<br />
Mechanical Engineering with a minor<br />
in Project Management from the<br />
University of Maryland, College Park,<br />
and he is scheduled to graduate in May<br />
2012. He is very involved in the<br />
Center for Minorities in Science and<br />
Engineering (CMSE) where he is the mentor coordinator for a<br />
high school outreach program designed to increase the number<br />
of underrepresented students pursuing engineering. In<br />
summer 2011, he had an internship with Cummins Inc. as a<br />
noise and vibration engineering intern. He also is a member<br />
of NSBE and a member of the Senior Council. After earning<br />
his B.S., he plans to work in the manufacturing industry with a<br />
focus in project management.<br />
Reuel Smith earned his B.S. with<br />
honors in Aerospace Engineering from<br />
the University of Maryland, College<br />
Park (UMD). He was awarded the<br />
LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate<br />
Fellowship at UMD, and he has<br />
completed his M.S. program in<br />
Aerospace Engineering. For the last<br />
two years, he has served as a NASA<br />
Space Science Ambassador. Currently, he is enrolled as a<br />
Ph.D. student at UMD in Mechanical Engineering and<br />
Reliability Engineering, and he expects to graduate in 2013.<br />
Olufemi Sokoya expects to earn his B.S.<br />
in Bioengineering from the University of<br />
Maryland, College Park (UMD) in 2012,<br />
and he is involved with many programs.<br />
He works with a team in the Gemstone<br />
University Honors Research Program to<br />
understand a potential alternative fuel<br />
source. With the Quality Enhancement<br />
Systems and Teams (QUEST) Honors<br />
Fellows Program he showcases his understanding of business,<br />
quality, and process improvement. While studying abroad in<br />
China, he received an award from the Dingman Center of the<br />
Robert H. Smith School of Business. He has held leadership<br />
positions in the UMD NSBE chapter as Membership Chair,<br />
Vice President, and Programs Chair.<br />

Simone Soso earned her B.S. in Animal<br />
Science from the University of Maryland<br />
Eastern Shore. She completed her M.S.<br />
program in Animal Health Science at the<br />
North Carolina Agricultural and<br />
Technical State University in 2009. She<br />
presented her research at the 90 th<br />
Conference for the Ecological Society of<br />
America in Montreal, Canada. She is<br />
currently completing her Ph.D. program in Environmental<br />
Science at Iowa State University where she is serving as an<br />
Indo-US Research Intern in the Sciences and Engineering<br />
Research Scholars Program.<br />
Simone S. Stalling, M.D., Ph.D. earned<br />
her B.S. summa cum laude in Chemical<br />
Engineering from the University of<br />
Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in<br />
2001. While at UMBC, she was a<br />
member of the Honors College, the<br />
National Society of Black Engineers, and<br />
the Women's Varsity Lacrosse Team. She also completed<br />
several internships. She completed her M.D./Ph.D. program at<br />
the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. Currently, she<br />
practices Internal Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.<br />
Marie E. Steele is pursuing B.S. degrees<br />
in both Mathematics and Financial<br />
Economics at the University of<br />
Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC),<br />
and she expects to graduate in 2012. In<br />
addition to being an LSAMP Scholar,<br />
she also is a McNair Scholar and a<br />
Meyerhoff NSA Scholar. Her extensive<br />
undergraduate research and internship<br />
experiences include summer 2010 at<br />
Princeton University, summer 2011 at Michigan State<br />
University, and spring 2011 at the Social Security<br />
Administration. While completing her last few undergraduate<br />
courses and applying to Ph.D. programs, she currently serves<br />
as a Statistics Grader and as an Economics Research Assistant<br />
at UMBC.<br />
Tesia N. Stephenson earned her B.S.<br />
magna cum laude in Biochemistry and<br />
Molecular Biology from the University of<br />
Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in<br />
2009. In addition to being an LSAMP<br />
Scholar, she also was a McNair Scholar at<br />
UMBC. She gained extensive research<br />
experience while an undergraduate at<br />
UMBC. Currently, she is a Ph.D. student in the Department of<br />
Chemistry at Duke University where she conducts research in<br />
the lab of Jiyong Hong, Ph.D.
