Aris Winger is an assistant math professor at Emory and<br />

Henry College in southwestern Virginia.<br />

He grew up in Washington, DC, was<br />

valedictorian of his high school class,<br />

entered Howard University, as part of<br />

the High School College Internship<br />

Program, when he was 16, and received<br />

his PhD from Carnegie-Mellon<br />

University at the age of 26. Aris teams up with his friend Big<br />

Easy on DCSouth.com, a gathering place for their interests in<br />

music, art, politics, racial issues, wedding videographer, and<br />

professional football.<br />

enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking,<br />

swimming and biking. I also love to attend<br />

outdoor festivals, carnivals and state fairs.<br />

Research / Career Interests: I look forward to<br />

reassuring young girls about changes in their<br />

bodies as they go through puberty, helping them to feel<br />

empowered as they decide to become sexually active or<br />

abstain, supporting them as they require obstetric care and<br />

helping them to navigate the changes caused by aging.\<br />

Dr. Mary Ayuk is an Immuno parasitologist at the University<br />

of Maryland, Eastern Shore. She received<br />

her Ph.D. in Biology from Howard<br />

University in 2011. She is a member of<br />

American Society of Tropical Medicine<br />

and Hygiene, the Third World<br />

Organization for Women in Science, and<br />

Sigma Xi. Her interest has been on genetic<br />

manipulation approaches to elucidate the function of relevant<br />

genes in parasites, consequently, based on the knowledge of<br />

those relevant host / parasites molecular mediators, developed<br />

other functional genomics tools (conventional RNAi and<br />

vector-based RNAi) in Schistosoma mansoni.<br />

Raderrio Wilkins received his Bachelor of Science in<br />

Biology with an environmental concentration from Hampton<br />

University in 1997 and a Master of Science<br />

in Biology from Howard University in 2011<br />

with a research concentration in aquatic<br />

ecology and microbiology. Mr. Wilkins<br />

has received numerous awards and<br />

acknowledgments for superior<br />

accomplishments in protecting human<br />

health and the environment. He is a Full member of the<br />

Howard University Chapter of Sigma Xi Scientific Research<br />

Society, the American Society for Microbiologists and Beta<br />

Kappa Chi.<br />

Martha Gay is a 4 th year PhD Pharmacology graduate student<br />

and previous Bridge to Doctorate<br />

recipient. She has successfully<br />

completed both her written and oral<br />

comprehensive examinations. Her<br />

departmental academic advisor is Dr.<br />

Robert L. Copeland and research<br />

advisor is Dr. Tamaro Hudson. Her<br />

research is performed at Howard<br />

University’s Cancer Center. They are<br />

currently collaborating with the VA Hospital on her<br />

dissertation project dealing with African American men and<br />

their relevance in prostate cancer. This semester Dr. Copeland<br />

and Miss Gay are diligently working towards her academic<br />

advancement into candidacy.<br />

Natalie Morgan is currently a junior, biology major, at<br />

Howard University in Washington D.C. In<br />

addition to being salutatorian of her high<br />

school, Natalie was awarded the Legacy<br />

Scholarship upon admission to Howard<br />

expressing a strong academic and extracurricular<br />

background in both violin and<br />

dance—hip-hop and Polynesian. She began<br />

her post-secondary studies at the age of<br />

fifteen, will receive her Bachelor of Science<br />

at nineteen, and aspires to become a pediatrician. Natalie is<br />

furthering her studies abroad for the fall 2011 semester in<br />

London, England at Queen Mary, University of London.<br />

Natalie Lisa Margaret Ramsey acquired her undergraduate<br />

degree from Howard University in May<br />

2011. She received a Bachelor of Science in<br />

Biology with a minor in Chemistry, magna<br />

cum laude. Natalie was awarded the<br />

prestigious Laureate Scholarship for students<br />

entering Howard University. She is a<br />

member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.<br />

Currently, she is furthering her research experience as a postbaccalaureate<br />

research fellow at the National Institutes of<br />

Health. She plans to apply to MD/PhD programs during the<br />

summer of 2012 in pursuit of a career as a physician-scientist.<br />

Kimberly Miller is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. As an<br />

alumna of Howard University, she received<br />

her bachelor degree in Biology in 2010.<br />

While attending Howard University, she was<br />

member of Beta Kappa Chi, National<br />

Institute of Science, Thomas B. Smith<br />

Biological Society and Golden Key<br />

International Honor Society. Currently, Ms.<br />

Miller is attending Howard University pursuing her M.S. in<br />

Biology with a concentration in Cellular & Molecular<br />

Biology. She is a recipient of the HBCU-STEM Fellowship<br />

Award for her graduate studies.<br />
