Ahmed Abdelsalam (’14) is a sophomore at<br />

Purdue University pursuing a degree in Chemical<br />

Engineering. Ahmed chose chemical engineering<br />

because of his love of chemistry and chemical<br />

processes and since chemical engineers are the<br />

highest paid engineers. Ahmed plans on pursuing<br />

a Master’s degree or work for a corporation that<br />

will allow him to utilize his skills as a chemical<br />

engineer.<br />

Andrea Abdullah (’10) came to IUPUI in 2006 and<br />

graduated with a B.A. in Biology in 2010 with minors<br />

in Spanish and Sociology.<br />

Orlando Acevedo (’13) is currently a junior<br />

at Ball State University studying Biology and<br />

Cultural Anthropology. Orlando participated<br />

in the summer 2011 LSAMP Research<br />

program and plans to attend graduate school<br />

to study Public Health.<br />

Nicholas Acosta (’14) is currently a<br />

sophomore at Purdue University West<br />

Lafayette studying Computer Science. Postgraduation,<br />

Nicholas plans to enter a<br />

graduate program to obtain a M.S in<br />

Computer Science then enter industry with a<br />

software company.<br />

Cassandra Adams (’09) is attending the Ohio University Heritage<br />

College of Osteopathic Medicine to become a<br />

physician. While in medical school, she has<br />

researched in Ecuador at the Tropical Disease<br />

Institute (producing the work “Intestinal<br />

Parasite Infection and Anemia Correlation in<br />

Loja Province, Ecuador”) and participates in<br />

Project Alliance, an HIV/AIDS research group.<br />

Cassie earned a double-major at Indiana<br />

University Bloomington in Chemistry and<br />

Gender Studies.<br />

Nigel Agboh (’13) is currently a junior at<br />

Purdue University West Lafayette<br />

studying Mechanical Engineering<br />

Technology. As a freshman, Nigel<br />

participated in Academic Boot Camp, ,<br />

partially funded by LSAMP Indiana.<br />

During summer 2011, while participating<br />

in the LSAMP Research program, Nigel<br />

was inspired to further his education and plans to attend graduate<br />

school upon graduation.<br />

Tarek Ajam (’09) holds a B.S. in Biology from Indiana University<br />

Bloomington and a M.S. in Biology from<br />

Indiana University-Purdue University<br />

Indianapolis. He is currently attending<br />

medical school at Indiana University. Tarek<br />

participated as a peer mentor and researcher<br />

while part of the LSAMP program. His<br />

research, “Factors effecting expression of<br />

vaccines in microalgae” was published in the<br />

June 2009 issue of Biologicals.<br />

Laimarie Alas (’12) is majoring in biology at<br />

Indiana University. She participates as a<br />

mentor in the LSAMP peer mentoring program<br />

and as a mentee in Women in Science<br />

Mentoring Program (WISP). Laimarie is also<br />

the Health Promotion Disease Prevention<br />

Coordinator for Indiana University Global<br />

Medical Brigades. Upon graduation, she plans<br />

to attend medical school.<br />

Maria Alatorre (’14) is a sophomore studying<br />

biology, Spanish and psychology. She hopes to<br />

attend medical school after college. She is a<br />

Hudson & Holland member and is involved with<br />

Timmy Global Health and Camp Kesem (a<br />

summer camp for children of parents with<br />

cancer). Maria participated in the IU Simon<br />

Cancer Center Summer Research Program in the<br />

summer of 2011 and is currently a researcher in<br />

Dr. Joel Ybe's lab at IUB.<br />
