Another key to reducing lumbar disc pressure is the use <strong>of</strong> armrests. They help by putting<br />

the force <strong>of</strong> your body not entirely on the seat <strong>and</strong> back rest, but putting some <strong>of</strong> this<br />

pressure on the armrests. Armrest needs to be adjustable in height to assure shoulders are<br />

not overstressed.<br />

4.0 CONCLUSION<br />

In this unit, you have been introduced to the fundamental concepts <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ergonomics</strong>. You<br />

have also learnt the different aspect <strong>of</strong> ergonomics <strong>and</strong> also the history <strong>of</strong> ergonomics.<br />

<strong>Ergonomics</strong> in work place was also discussed alongside achieving efficiency in<br />

ergonomics. The various benefits <strong>of</strong> ergonomics were also discussed. The various fields<br />

<strong>of</strong> ergonomics was also briefly explained.<br />

• Introduction to <strong>Ergonomics</strong> which is derived from two Greek words: ergon,<br />

meaning work, <strong>and</strong> nomoi, meaning natural laws, to create a word that means the<br />

• Highlighting <strong>of</strong> the various aspect <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ergonomics</strong> like safety, comfort, ease <strong>of</strong> use<br />

context <strong>of</strong> the culture <strong>of</strong> Ancient Greece.<br />

• The discussion <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ergonomics</strong> in work place <strong>and</strong> achieving efficiency in<br />

ergonomics.<br />

• Explanation <strong>of</strong> the various benefits <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ergonomics</strong> which was discussed in greater<br />

detail.<br />

• The discussion <strong>of</strong> various fields <strong>of</strong> ergonomics like Engineering psychology,<br />

Macroergonomics, Seating <strong>Ergonomics</strong>.<br />
