Suggested Timeframe <strong>for</strong> Recommendations<br />

The following are recommendations on timeframe prioritizations. Please note that activities<br />

may be started in the short term, <strong>and</strong> continue to the medium to long term, which has been<br />

reflected in the costing table below.<br />

Strategy <strong>for</strong> Short-term <strong>Recovery</strong> (up to 6 months)<br />

• Rehabilitate <strong>and</strong> reduce the maintenance gap of hydraulic assets <strong>and</strong> increase<br />

the drainage capacity.<br />

• Engage a panel of local <strong>and</strong> international flood experts to analyze the 2011<br />

floods <strong>and</strong> provide recommendations to the strategic Committee on Water<br />

Management.<br />

• Carry out dam safety reviews <strong>for</strong> the three large dams, including updating the<br />

reservoir operations <strong>and</strong> maintenance procedures.<br />

• Strengthen the flood <strong>for</strong>ecasting <strong>and</strong> early warning system.<br />

• Update Integrated Plan <strong>for</strong> Flood Mitigation in the Chao Phraya River Basin<br />

(1999).<br />

• Start re-investing in floodwater management systems such as small <strong>and</strong> medium<br />

reservoirs, space <strong>for</strong> the rivers <strong>and</strong> community watershed management programs.<br />

Strategy <strong>for</strong> Medium-term <strong>and</strong> Long-term <strong>Recovery</strong> <strong>and</strong> Reconstruction (beyond six<br />

months)<br />

• Accelerate the implementation of the Royal Initiative <strong>for</strong> Management considering<br />

social impacts <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> use compensation.<br />
