The cost of damage is calculated on the basis of pre-flood value of construction materials<br />

<strong>for</strong> damaged parts of education institutes (buildings, roads, dikes, dormitories, stadiums,<br />

etc.) <strong>and</strong> equipment <strong>and</strong> goods such as books, desks, benches, blackboards, windows,<br />

doors, school compounds, computers, science lab equipment, office furniture, etc.<br />

A total cost of damage to the education sector is estimated at THB 13.05 billion (USD<br />

430.5 million).<br />

Public Private Total<br />

Most schools were operational at the time of writing, having done major clean up <strong>and</strong><br />

repair of water damage. However, <strong>for</strong> some higher-level educational institutions such as<br />

Nakhon Sawan Agricultural College, Thammasat University (Rangsit), Kasetsart University<br />

<strong>and</strong> a few others institutions in Ayuthaya <strong>and</strong> Bangkok, a substantial amount of clean up<br />

<strong>and</strong> repairs will be required after the flood.<br />

resistance to diseases, as well as <strong>for</strong> sustaining the dignity <strong>and</strong> structure of families <strong>and</strong><br />

communities. Since major flooding came during the school holiday, an immediate priority<br />

of the MOE – through its key commissions/offices – including: Basic Education Commission,<br />

Vocational Education Commission, Higher Education Commission, Private Education<br />
