DAMAGE AND LOSSES CALCULATIONS<br />

Damage<br />

Damage data <strong>for</strong> schools<br />

Provincial damage data came from the Ministry of Education (the Office of Basic<br />

Education Commission, the Office of Private Education, the Office of Non-Formal<br />

Education Commission, <strong>and</strong> the Office of Vocational Education)<br />

Damage data <strong>for</strong> higher education institutions<br />

- We received actual damage data from 18 universities out of 51 affected<br />

universities.<br />

- For those institutions without data (especially in Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom,<br />

Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, <strong>and</strong> Suphan Buri) we based our cost calculation<br />

under on damage per student. Seven categories were set based on actual<br />

figures <strong>and</strong> extrapolated <strong>for</strong> those institutions without data.<br />

Losses<br />

- Major losses <strong>for</strong> the education is associated with the cost of running shelters<br />

o We are using actual figures reported from each MOE Commissions<br />

o Assume that all shelters will provide support to victim on an average<br />

of 120 days.<br />

- Cost <strong>for</strong> site cleaning is assumed at 6 percent of total physical damage <strong>for</strong><br />

schools under basic education, private education <strong>and</strong> non-<strong>for</strong>mal education.<br />

For higher education <strong>and</strong> vocational institutions, the cost is site cleaning cost<br />

<strong>and</strong> is estimated at 1 percent of total physical damage.<br />
