These preliminary results suggest the following<br />

hypothesis . Initially the primary<br />

processes of decomposition occur on the surface<br />

of the needle with the decomposition o f<br />

waxes, and as the waxes are depleted, the cell -<br />

ular constituents are acted upon .<br />
