SFOC for High Efficiency/C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al <strong>Turbo</strong>chargers<br />

All engine types are as standard fitted with high<br />

efficiency turbochargers (EoD: 4 59 04) but can<br />

alternatively use c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al turbochargers, opti<strong>on</strong>:<br />

4 59 07.<br />

The high efficiency turbocharger <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> applied to the<br />

engine in the basic design with the view to obtaining<br />

the lowest possible Specific Fuel Oil C<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong><br />

(SFOC) values, see curve A, Fig. 2.07.0 .<br />

With a c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al turbocharger the amount of<br />

air required for combusti<strong>on</strong> purposes can, however,<br />

be adjusted to provide a higher exhaust gas<br />

temperature, if th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> needed for the exhaust gas<br />

boiler.<br />

The matching of the engine and the turbocharging<br />

system <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> then modified, thus increasing the exhaust<br />

gas temperature by 20 °C.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g></str<strong>on</strong>g> modificati<strong>on</strong> will lead to a 7�8% reducti<strong>on</strong> in<br />

the exhaust gas amount, and involve an SFOC<br />

penalty of 2 g/kWh, see curve B, Fig. 2.07.0 .<br />
