Fuel C<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> at an Arbitrary Load<br />

Once the matching point (O) of the engine has<br />

been chosen, the specific fuel oil c<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> at<br />

an arbitrary point S , S 2 or S 3 can be estimated<br />

based <strong>on</strong> the SFOC at point ‘ ’ and ‘2’.<br />

These SFOC values can be calculated by using<br />

the graphs for the relevant engine type for the<br />

propeller curve I and for the c<strong>on</strong>stant speed curve<br />

II, giving the SFOC at points and 2, respectively.<br />

Next the SFOC for point S can be calculated as<br />

an interpolati<strong>on</strong> between the SFOC in points ‘ ’<br />

and ‘2’, and for point S 3 as an extrapolati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

The SFOC curve through points S 2 , <strong>on</strong> the left<br />

of point , <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> symmetrical about point , i.e. at<br />

speeds lower than that of point , the SFOC will<br />

also increase.<br />

The above�menti<strong>on</strong>ed method provides <strong>on</strong>ly an<br />

approximate value. A more prec<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>e indicati<strong>on</strong> of<br />

the expected SFOC at any load can be calculated<br />

by using our computer program. <str<strong>on</strong>g>Th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g></str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> a service<br />
