Auxiliary Propulsi<strong>on</strong> System/Take Home System<br />
From time to time an Auxiliary Propulsi<strong>on</strong> System/<br />
Take Home System capable of driving the CP propeller<br />
by using the shaft generator as an electric<br />
motor <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>request</strong>ed.<br />
<strong>MAN</strong> <strong>Diesel</strong> can offer a soluti<strong>on</strong> where the<br />
CP propeller <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> driven by the alternator via a<br />
two�speed tunnel gear box. The electric power <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
produced by a number of GenSets. The main engine<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> d<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>engaged by a clutch (RENK KAZ) made<br />
as an integral part of the shafting. The clutch <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> installed<br />
between the tunnel gear box and the main<br />
engine, and c<strong>on</strong>ical bolts are used to c<strong>on</strong>nect and<br />
d<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>c<strong>on</strong>nect the main engine and the shafting.<br />

A thrust bearing, which transfers the auxiliary propulsi<strong>on</strong><br />
propeller thrust to the engine thrust bearing<br />
when the clutch <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> d<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>engaged, <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> built into the<br />
RENK KAZ clutch. When the clutch <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> engaged,<br />
the thrust <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> transferred statically to the engine<br />
thrust bearing through the thrust bearing built into<br />
the clutch.<br />

To obtain high propeller efficiency in the auxiliary<br />
propulsi<strong>on</strong> mode, and thus also to minim<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>e the<br />
auxiliary power required, a two�speed tunnel gear,<br />
which provides lower propeller speed in the auxiliary<br />
propulsi<strong>on</strong> mode, <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> used.<br />
The two�speed tunnel gear box <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> made with a<br />
fricti<strong>on</strong> clutch which allows the propeller to be<br />
clutched in at full alternator/motor speed where<br />
the full torque <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>available</str<strong>on</strong>g>. The alternator/motor <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
started in the de�clutched c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong> with a start<br />
transformer.<br />
The system can quickly establ<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>h auxiliary propulsi<strong>on</strong><br />
from the engine c<strong>on</strong>trol room and/or bridge,<br />
even with unmanned engine room.<br />
Re�establ<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>hment of normal operati<strong>on</strong> requires<br />
attendance in the engine room and can be d<strong>on</strong>e<br />
within a few minutes.<br />
