(c). There are certain classes of words employed by<br />

St. Luke which were used in medical language in some<br />

special relation. Thus he alone uses the special medical<br />

terms for the distribution of nourishment, blood, nerves,<br />

&c., through the body, viz., * Siavifxeiv, * diaairdpeiv, * ava-<br />

^idovai; also the medical terms for "to stimulate," viz.,<br />

* tTTsyeipHv, * TrpoTpiirHv, * irapoTpvviiv ; and the terms to<br />

denote an intermittent or a failing pulse, viz., * EiaXdrrHv<br />

and * iKXdireiv ;<br />

&c.<br />

We meet with the same combinations of words as in<br />

the medical writers.<br />

In addition, for example, to stich technical<br />

which are met with also in medical language.<br />

There are some words which are confined to St. Luke<br />

and the medical writers in the sense which they bear in his<br />

writings, e.g. * iviaxvi^iv, "to impart physical strength"<br />
