Flex System Power RequirementsThe Flex System hub can be supplied from a 12-24 volt power source. It ships with a 2 amp12 volt DC, center post positive, power supply transformer using either 110V or 220V ACpower. While 24V power supplies are less common, some legacy systems may still operate at24 volts and can be supported by the Flex System hub.In addition, the Flex System hub can receive backup power from a battery via a Molex® MiniJr Series connector (39-01-2040) . The system charges the backup battery when transformerinput voltage matches battery system voltage. The Flex System is designed to supply operating power and communicate to its connectedmodules using CAT5 Ethernet patch cable with 8P8C connectors (RJ45) using an RS-485protocol. The cable supplies both communications and power to the module. Thecommunications baud rate limits cable length to a 350 foot (105 meter) maximum under idealconditions. Maximum cable length is further limited by the power requirements of eachmodule. Under most conditions, CAT5 cable may extend 100 feet (30 meters) to any FlexSystem module. The ability to extend beyond 100 feet depends on varying conditions such as actual powersupply voltage, varying loads, multiple module power/surge requirements, and environmentalconditions that affect communications such as electromagnetic interference from machinery, radios, etc.Because of their lower power requirements, under ideal conditions, cable to these modulesmay extend out to the maximum of 350 feet (105 meters):Data KnobDisplayKeypad DisplayRFID ReaderKeyport
