Department: Public ProtectionMedical ExaminerActivity: Medical Examiner AdministrationHighlightsThe Administration Activity provides pathologist services, management, accounting and clerical support for the Division and community/educational outreach with organizations, institutions, schools, various task forces and medical facilities. Section 406.11, Florida Statute, mandates Medical Examiner jurisdiction in specified situations to determine the cause and manner of death. The District 7 (Volusia) MEOffice also handles the District 24 (Seminole) cases via a contractual agreement. The annual caseload, a function of population, continues to fluctuate but is generally increasing in both counties due in part to the transient population of seasonal visitors andtourists. This Activity also transcribes autopsy findings and produces final postmortem reports. The Division now scans and stores allcase files in electronic format on the Liberty Document Management System, for efficient storage and retrieval of data, in accordancewith state and local retention schedules. The Seminole County contract generates revenue at the rate of $1,800 per examination and death certificate prepared, and $30 per deathreview for cremation approval. The FY 2010-11 budget includes one unfunded position.Volusia County Section F - 240
