Disinfection <strong>and</strong> node dissection. Shoots are taken from rapidly growing new<br />

branches during spring (Figure 3A). Exp<strong>and</strong>ed leaves are removed. Shoots are<br />

washed with water <strong>and</strong> detergent (Mistol®, Henkel Ibérica, S.A.). The protocol <strong>for</strong><br />

disinfection with ethanol <strong>and</strong> bleach is followed accordingly as described earlier.<br />

Node explants, 2 cm long, are cut <strong>and</strong> cultured upright with the basal end <strong>of</strong> the<br />

node embedded a few mm into the culture medium (Figure 3B).
