c. Helping the new student accept himself or herself as a person so that he or<br />

she will have the confidence to choose a course <strong>of</strong> action.<br />

d. A search for facts or information on the part <strong>of</strong> the new student so that he or<br />

she can evaluate various courses <strong>of</strong> action in relation to his or her own goals.<br />

e. Winning the students’ respect for the school and then encouraging them to<br />

behave in such a way that they win the respect <strong>of</strong> the school.<br />

12. Because <strong>of</strong> budgetary cutbacks, no new programs or positions can be added to<br />

the Division <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs. In order to meet the continuing and changing<br />

demands placed on my staff, an immediate reorganization <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>fice is<br />

necessary. To ensure staff acceptance <strong>of</strong> the reorganization, I will:<br />

a. Encourage active participation in the reorganization.<br />

b. Ensure that the person who proposes the reorganization is highly respected by<br />

staff members.<br />

c. Explain that failure to accept the reorganization will result in a penalty or loss<br />

<strong>of</strong> possible rewards.<br />

d. Emphasize that the responsibility for adapting to the reorganization is<br />

primarily an “individual” undertaking that will result in some degree <strong>of</strong><br />

personal satisfaction.<br />

e. Carefully outline both the expectations and consequences <strong>of</strong> not accepting the<br />

new organization and leave the staff members to their own means.<br />
