Der Arlberger Stil „Ski with Skardarasy!“ titelte einst eine neuseeländische Werbung im Juni 1936 in der Zeitung Table Talk. Dabei ging es um Franz Skardarasy, der dort als Pionier motivierten Skifahrern den Arlberger Stil lehrte. Über 80 Jahre später schwingt in mir, seinem Enkelsohn Benjamin Skardarasy, der selbe Pioniergeist und Elan – denn der Stil vom Arlberg hat sich im Grunde nicht verändert. Immer noch trifft Eleganz auf Sportlichkeit – und nicht zu vergessen auch auf großartige Genusskultur. Die verschiedenen Facetten dieses Stils zeigen sich in La Loupe. Katia Schneider was born<br />

until 1975 before returning<br />
to Austria. In 1976/77 she<br />
was the face of Heidi in the<br />
unanimous television series<br />
which became very popular<br />
at the time. She studied<br />
architecture in Vienna and<br />
Paris, he dedicated himself<br />
to philosophy, art history,<br />
architecture theory, and<br />
urban development at the<br />
University of Vienna and the<br />
University for Applied Arts,<br />
Vienna. Today they manage<br />
Almhof Schneider in <strong>Lech</strong><br />
and in 2006 they founded<br />
the event centre Allmeinde<br />
Commongrounds.<br />
L.L. Mrs Schneider, you were born in Beirut, you lived in<br />
Vienna, Rome, Paris, and now <strong>Lech</strong>. What does home mean<br />
to you?<br />
K.S. That’s a question I often ask myself. Despite the fact<br />
that I was a nomad for a long time I also appreciated the joy<br />
of being without a home and free. So, above all, what home<br />
means to me is my relationship with Gerold, together with<br />
him I can make any place my home. In <strong>Lech</strong> <strong>Zürs</strong> I feel at<br />
home, but it’s not my home. And Vienna, where my family<br />
is from, is also not the place I’d call home. As a<br />
child I had several places I felt connected with and<br />
that’s probably also why I feel a certain ease and<br />
freedom – I don’t know the fear of losing a home.<br />
L.L. Your father worked for the United Nations,<br />
which is why you grew up in Beirut at first, where<br />
you attended a French school. When you were<br />
8 years old your family was evacuated. What<br />
memories do you have of your birthplace?<br />
K.S. The most beautiful ones! Beirut was an<br />
important cornerstone for my development. I had<br />
a wonderful childhood there and I still sap my<br />
energy from many beautiful experiences – light,<br />
sun, freedom, time, and space. Even though I had<br />
to leave this place at only eight-and-a-half years I<br />
still have strong memories.<br />
We had to leave Beirut very suddenly, overnight, and then<br />
we came to Vienna. A place that I remember to be dark and<br />
where the people seemed old and grumpy. It was cold and<br />
there was little time. That was a big change for me. Due to<br />
the continuing unrest in Lebanon I have not been back since<br />
then, but I definitely plan on travelling there.<br />

L.L. You studied architecture in Vienna and Paris. What<br />
influence did these two cities have on you as an architect?<br />
K.S. They really didn’t, at least as far as architecture goes. I<br />
was more fascinated by the urban in general.
