Der Arlberger Stil „Ski with Skardarasy!“ titelte einst eine neuseeländische Werbung im Juni 1936 in der Zeitung Table Talk. Dabei ging es um Franz Skardarasy, der dort als Pionier motivierten Skifahrern den Arlberger Stil lehrte. Über 80 Jahre später schwingt in mir, seinem Enkelsohn Benjamin Skardarasy, der selbe Pioniergeist und Elan – denn der Stil vom Arlberg hat sich im Grunde nicht verändert. Immer noch trifft Eleganz auf Sportlichkeit – und nicht zu vergessen auch auf großartige Genusskultur. Die verschiedenen Facetten dieses Stils zeigen sich in La Loupe. L.L. Today you and your husband Gerold run Almhof<br />
Schneider in <strong>Lech</strong> and you work as architects, too. Aside<br />
from the newly renovated Almhof, Schneggarei, and<br />
Allmeinde Commongrounds you two have left a lasting<br />
impression on the architecture in <strong>Lech</strong>. What characterises<br />
your style?<br />
K.S. I’m not sure if we have found a style that is really characteristic<br />
for us. In the course of these three projects we have<br />
created three different buildings that strongly reflect their<br />
context. Of course, there are certain parameters we value –<br />
the connection with the village and the material, for example.<br />
G.S. I don’t much like this term. It often means being exchangeable<br />
and branding your own work. We have avoided<br />
both and we rather tried to not be fashionable but rather<br />
give very personal answers to construction tasks where there<br />
weren’t always finished answers.<br />
L.L. Almhof Schneider was renovated and expanded in the<br />
past years. What has changed?<br />
K.S. When we started renovating Almhof, our goal was<br />
not to realise our own vision. Our plan was not to leave our<br />
mark on the region, it’s more that we felt it was our duty to<br />
carefully renovate the hotel. Of course, that means that things<br />
change and the two of us also develop continuously – particularly<br />
because of our travels. So, it has changed, but then it<br />
really hasn’t.<br />
G.S. Basically one has to distinguish between two phases:<br />
the one where it was possible to slowly renovate individual<br />
rooms. Then, after long years of work on a “Masterplan” there<br />
was the big renovation and reconstruction in 2015/16 that<br />
literally put the house on new foundations.<br />
During the last two big construction phases the work of more<br />
than twenty years came together again – now it all works<br />
based on the same spirit. <strong>No</strong>w it’s also clear why the reconstruction<br />
was done in that order – why some things had to wait<br />
even though we would have liked to do them sooner. <strong>No</strong>w<br />
there will be one more big renovation which will be spaced<br />
out over next three summers: an expansion by several rooms<br />
