CJ V41 - BASIC COMPLAINT DISPATCHER UPDATE I - .5 Unit<br />

course addresses technological advances and advanced techniques<br />

in communication for public safety dispatchers.<br />

CJ V42 - BASIC COMPLAINT DISPATCHER<br />

Recommended preparation: CJ V40<br />

Hours: .5 lecture weekly<br />

This P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification<br />

course addresses advanced training topics and communication<br />

techniques for public safety dispatchers during critical incidents.<br />

Fees will be required. Field trips will be required. Formerly CJ 42.<br />

Offered on a pass/no pass basis only.<br />

CJ V45 - COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING<br />

OFFICER: P.O.S.T. - 2.5 Units<br />

Prerequisite: permanent (non-probationary) dispatcher<br />

Hours: 2.5 lecture weekly<br />

This course provides the experienced dispatcher with<br />

the fundamental understanding <strong>of</strong> the role and duties <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Communications Training Officer (CTO). This CTO training will<br />

emphasize interactive instruction in teaching techniques, liability<br />

issues, and evaluation <strong>of</strong> trainees’ performance. Upon successful<br />

completion, students will receive a P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards<br />

and Training) certificate in Communications Training Officer.<br />

Fees will be required. Field trips will be required. Formerly CJ<br />

V60E. Offered on a pass/no pass basis only.<br />

CJ V46 - BREATH ALCOHOL TESTING DEVICE - .5 Unit<br />

Hours: .5 lecture weekly, plus 4 hours total by arrangement<br />

This is a certification course designed for criminal justice<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals that explores the historical and scientific aspects <strong>of</strong><br />

preliminary breath alcohol testing devices. It is a theoretical and<br />

practical training seminar which will result in the students being<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>icient in the use <strong>of</strong> the Alco-Sensor. The students will be given<br />

training in preparing for and providing effective testimony on the<br />

results <strong>of</strong> the Alco-Sensor. Upon successful completion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

course, students will receive P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and<br />

Training) certification.<br />

Fees will be required. Formerly CJ V60A. Offered on a pass/no<br />

pass basis only.<br />

CJ V47 - BUILDING AND ZONING CODE<br />

ENFORCEMENT - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course is an introduction to building and zoning code<br />

enforcement. Code enforcement is the study <strong>of</strong> community regulatory<br />

standards pertaining to housing and commercial development.<br />

Subjects to be studied will include state codes, duties <strong>of</strong> enforcement<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficers, pr<strong>of</strong>essional certification, and career opportunities.<br />

Same as CT V47.<br />

CJ V70 - EXTENDED BASIC/RESERVE PEACE OFFICER<br />

TRAINING: LEVELS III AND II - 12 Units<br />

Prerequisite: student must be 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s<br />

license, pass a physical agility test, and have no felony convictions;<br />

California Penal Code requires each applicant for admission to<br />

a basic course <strong>of</strong> training certified by the Commission on Peace<br />

Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) who is not sponsored by<br />

a local or other law enforcement agency, or who is not a peace<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficer employed by a state or local agency, department or district,<br />

to submit written certification from the Department <strong>of</strong> Justice that the<br />

applicant has no criminal history background which would disqualify<br />

him or her pursuant to this code, or the Welfare and Institutions<br />

Code, from owning, possessing, or having under his or her control a<br />

firearm<br />

Hours: 13 lecture, 15.5 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This is a Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) extended<br />

basic course for students and individuals wishing to become<br />

full-time or reserve police <strong>of</strong>ficers or deputy sheriffs. The course<br />

fulfills P.O.S.T. requirements for Level III and II reserve training.<br />

Training includes penal code section 832 requirements and provides<br />

instruction in administration <strong>of</strong> criminal justice, ethics, California<br />

court system, discretionary decision making, first aid/CPR, crimes<br />

in progress, unusual occurrences, police radio communications,<br />

police-community relations, criminal law, traffic investigation,<br />

laws <strong>of</strong> evidence, and patrol procedures. Emphasis is placed on<br />

instruction in arrest, search and seizures, methods <strong>of</strong> arrest, baton<br />

training, vehicle pullovers, and report writing. Special emphasis and<br />

training will include firearm safety, firearm (pistol and shotgun) use<br />

related to law enforcement with training in combat/stress shooting<br />

scenarios and qualifications over a P.O.S.T. prescribed course <strong>of</strong><br />

fire. The course includes vehicle operation, defensive driving, and<br />

chemical agent training. The course completes the P.O.S.T. Level<br />

III and II requirements <strong>of</strong> the reserve <strong>of</strong>ficer / reserve deputy sheriff<br />

requirements.<br />

Fees will be required. Field trips will be required. Formerly CJ 70.<br />

CJ V71 - EXTENDED BASIC/RESERVE PEACE OFFICER<br />

TRAINING: LEVEL I - 12 Units<br />

Prerequisite: CJ V 70 or P.O.S.T. certified equivalent or certification<br />

<strong>of</strong> Levels III/II<br />

Hours: 13 lecture, 15.5 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This is a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) extended<br />

basic course for students and individuals wishing to become full-<br />

time or reserve police <strong>of</strong>ficers or deputy sheriffs. The course fulfills<br />

P.O.S.T. requirements for Level I training. Training will include:<br />

victimology, crimes against children, sex crimes, juvenile law,<br />

controlled substances, ABC laws, investigative report writing, use<br />

<strong>of</strong> force, patrol techniques, vehicle pullovers, domestic violence,<br />

missing persons, traffic enforcement firearms, hazardous materials,<br />

emergency management, and, physical fitness. Students will be<br />

required to pay for E.V.O.C.(Emergency Vehicle Operating Course) at<br />

the time <strong>of</strong> training.<br />

CJ V85 - PC 832: ARREST, SEARCH AND SEIZURE - 2.5 Units<br />

Hours: 2.5 lecture weekly<br />

This course will cover the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> law enforcement<br />

embracing all those subject areas that will enhance an <strong>of</strong>ficer’s<br />

ability to perform as a member <strong>of</strong> a police or allied agency. Subjects<br />

covered will be: criminal law; laws <strong>of</strong> arrest, search and seizure;<br />

moral, legal and safety aspects in use <strong>of</strong> firearms; and, community<br />

relations. Required for state certification under Peace Officers<br />

Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) guidelines.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly CJ 85. Offered on a pass/no<br />

pass basis only.<br />
