ECON V95 - ECONOMICS INTERNSHIP I - 1-4 Units<br />
Corequisite: enrolled in a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 units to include internship<br />
Recommended preparation: completion <strong>of</strong> or concurrent enrollment<br />
in one course in the discipline<br />
Hours: 60 per unit<br />
This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are volunteers (unpaid) an<br />
opportunity to obtain work experience related to their field <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a designated<br />
faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an approved<br />
work proposal.<br />
Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />
times not to exceed 16 units total in combination with any other work<br />
experience/internship courses. Formerly Econ 95. Transfer credit:<br />
for CSU, credit limitations - see counselor; for UC, determined after<br />
admission.<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are employed in the field an<br />
opportunity to expand their work experience related to their field<br />
<strong>of</strong> study. Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a<br />
designated faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an<br />
approved work proposal.<br />

This introductory foundation course is designed to provide<br />
students with the fundamental knowledge <strong>of</strong> the American<br />
educational enterprise, especially problems in urban multicultural<br />
schools. Standards for the teaching pr<strong>of</strong>ession, conditions for<br />
effective learning, and models <strong>of</strong> school reform are addressed.<br />
A minimum <strong>of</strong> 20 hours <strong>of</strong> observation and participation in a<br />
multicultural school setting is required.<br />
Field trips will be required. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.<br />
EDU V02 - URBAN EDUCATION IN AMERICAN<br />
SOCIETY - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: ENGL V01A or placement as measured<br />
by the college assessment process<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This foundation course is designed to provide students with<br />
the fundamental knowledge <strong>of</strong> the understanding <strong>of</strong> the American<br />
educational system, especially problems in urban multicultural<br />
schools. Concepts and methods from the fields <strong>of</strong> sociology,<br />
philosophy, and the politics <strong>of</strong> education are used to gain knowledge<br />
<strong>of</strong>, understand and analyze the current conditions <strong>of</strong> American<br />
schools and to evaluate selected proposals/models <strong>of</strong> reform.<br />
A minimum <strong>of</strong> 20 hours <strong>of</strong> observation and participation in a<br />
multicultural school and community setting is required.<br />

EDU V89 - WORKSHOPS IN EDUCATION - .5-10 Units<br />
Prerequisite: varies with topic<br />
Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />
Designed to meet specific needs <strong>of</strong> the college and community as<br />
required and/or requested by persons whose needs in this area are<br />
not met by present course <strong>of</strong>ferings.<br />

EAC V01 - STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS IN<br />
COLLEGE AND LIFE - 3 Units<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This course is designed for students with disabilities to increase<br />
success in education, career and life goals. Students will develop<br />
their own success plans through self-evaluation and by learning<br />
and applying specific techniques and resources. Topics covered are<br />
disability awareness and self-advocacy, learning pr<strong>of</strong>iles, study/life<br />
skills, relationships, multiculturalism, and college and career options.<br />
Emphasis will be placed on developing independent critical thinking<br />
skills while providing opportunity for construction and implementation<br />
<strong>of</strong> plans for success.<br />

EAC V11 - S.A.V.E.S.: SPECIALIZED ACADEMIC, VOCATIONAL,<br />
EMOTIONAL/SOCIAL ASSESSMENT - .5 Unit<br />
Hours: 1 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is designed to support the academic success <strong>of</strong><br />
students by creating a learning pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> relative strengths and<br />
weaknesses. Initial assessment <strong>of</strong> students will include screening in<br />
the following areas: cognitive performance, academic achievement,<br />
attentional capacity, cognitive/academic language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency,<br />
vocational readiness, and technological sophistication. Based on<br />
these findings, students will be directed to more in-depth assessment<br />
in indicated areas <strong>of</strong> difficulty. After evaluating test results, through<br />
a combination <strong>of</strong> the interactive classroom environment and<br />
individual meetings with their instructor, students will be introduced<br />
to appropriate teaching, courses and tutoring techniques, materials,<br />
texts, and assistive technology to support their academic, vocational<br />
and social-emotional needs. Each student will leave the course<br />
with a portfolio <strong>of</strong> relevant assessments and resources. Students<br />
with suspected learning disabilities will be referred to learning skills<br />
assessment and courses.<br />
May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 2 times. Offered on a pass/no<br />
pass basis only.<br />
EAC V13 - HOLISTIC HEALTH AND DISABILITIES - 1.5 Units<br />
Hours: 1.5 lecture weekly<br />
This course introduces students to the benefits <strong>of</strong> rehabilitation<br />
<strong>of</strong> the whole person and its relevance to the current holistic health<br />
movement. Students will review key elements <strong>of</strong> holistic health<br />
practices related to enhanced quality <strong>of</strong> life experiences for persons<br />
coping with disease and disabilities. Students will evaluate the<br />
impact <strong>of</strong> the rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> the whole person on the recovery<br />
process as it relates to issues <strong>of</strong> self-esteem, stress management,<br />
addiction, and depression. Relevant campus, community, and Web<br />
resources will also be explored.<br />
